I was wondering if any of you canadian students who got into US schools can give me some advice on the procedure? Is it harder for us as foreign students? How is financial aid for us? pls help!

As a canadian student you are viewed as a foreigner. That means no financial aid and if you get into a US med school, you have to show evidence of funds for the whole 4 years of tution and living expenses. I am a Canadian but I got my permanent residency so I am eligible for financial aid. Unless you are wealthy, the cost of attending a US medical school can be prohibitive. I hope that helps.

HI as a Canadian who just got into the US for med school.... I can tell you first hand that yes it is a little more difficult for us to make it, but definetly possible especially if you know were to apply (Wends I'm going to PM you), I do think though as a Canadian vs. other foreign students we are at an advantage. Many US med schools require a BSc or courses to be completed at a US OR a Canadian University.

As for finances, you can get a bank loan, several scholarships and finally OSAP does give you some cash, but yeah its hard because we're not eligable for FAFSA or med loans etc... unless one has a permanent residency... which leads me to ask... IDPHARM...

How did you obtain your permanent residency? how does one go about this?

Thanks

Permanent residency is more publicly known as "Green Card Holders". You can get that if you have a job and your employer helps you to get it, invest enough money in the U.S., marry a U.S. citizen, etc.

The acceptance rate for international students to at least one school in general is much lower (I think it's close to 50% for U.S. citizens, and 10-20% for foreign nationals). Look at the % of int'l student at each school and pick the ones that you have realistic chance at.

I worked for 10 years and got my "Green Card" through my employer.

hi can I get a green card while I have my international student visa... if I plan to work while in med school?
