Help a Texas applicant with school list. Need advice pls

Im an applicant from Texas, and of course applied to all of my state schools but I was looking for a little help with what schools would be friendly to an OOS/Texas resident.

My stats aren't great so I want to be realistic and make sure I am applying to schools where I at least have a chance to get an interview.

My stats:
oGPA:3.53
sGPA:3.14
DAT:
BIO: 18
GC: 20
OC: 19
RC: 19
QR: 17
PAT: 25
TS: 19
AA:19
I consider myself above average in community service hours/ heading community service projects and working with a ton of the local organizations.

Please let me know which schools you think I should add to my list, or remove from it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I am a reapplicant to Texas schools only. I took the DAT late last year and didn't end up being able to submit my application until literally withing 2 weeks of the deadline.

Also editing as my list changes.

Take out Tennesee. They don't take that many OOS, the numbers are high because they have an agreement to take Arkansas residents.

Take out UMDNJ, they really like NJ residents and people from that region. Take out Columbia, your DAT isn't that high.

Add Oklahoma, Midwestern AZ and IL, Temple, Roseman.

Thanks for the input with Tennessee, I'll remove that. One of the dentists I work with now went to UMDNJ so I might keep that one as a possibility. What about UNLV or VCU? Have any info on them? They seem reasonably tolerant to OOS applicants

UNLV really likes west coast/california people. VCU would be okay, but nothing that would increase your chances that much. Add the schools I listed, trust me.

Forgot to add Case to my list. You could also add USC if you're okay with the pricetag/PBL.

I have somewhat of the same stats as you. sGPA: 3.17, oGPA: 3.35 DAT (taking this Summer)
I would highly recommend adding USC, Loma Linda, Nova, and Case.

Yes, they're SDA affiliated. And their school has religious lifestyle requirements. Make sure you check it out before you apply.

They do, but my Aunt went there and she said that if you put down that you are very religious they'll take a look at you. You dont actually have to be religious though. When she went there she said that a huge chunk of students got in by putting that on their app but werent really religious.

Case-make sure you reach their gpa requirements or they will take your money and toss out your application.

take out the schools in red. i was also a Texas applicant and i applied to way too many state schools and not enough private schools. your best bets are Texas plus OOS private schools. no need to waste money on anything else unless you have a serious connection.

Multiple Texas residents have been accepted to Oklahoma and they interview a fair amount. I know this for a fact. Leave it on there, its better then some private school for Texas residents.

They like a decent science GPA though. Don't think the 3.14 is going to do OP any favors.

OU does have pretty high requirements. Its really up to you. One more school is not going to kill you but take your chance if this is your first time applying out state. I have many friends who applied there. One of my friends had little higher stats (with a DAT AA: 20) than yours but was WAITlISTED at OU. So if youre tight on $$$, save it for a private school! Rmr youre going to need $ for supplementals as well

i agree with longhornpride. i'm actually a texas resident and a reapplicant too and narrowed it down to those schools from your list. still trying to finalize it though.. good luck this cycle! by the way, does anyone know anything about LECOM? noticed that one wasn't on your list.

Your sGPA and DAT are a bit below the average for Texas, but you'll probably have a pretty good shot out of state.

I was curious about this one too. And what about Mercy?

LECOM would be a decent choice if you just want to get in dental school somewhere. It would be last on my list of places to go though. Personally, I wouldn't apply there.

Yeah I wouldn't bother with western if I was you.

She told me that they'll tell you "we prefer prereqs taken at a 4 yr college/university" but they just take you right out of the applicant pool if you have taken classes at a community college. Its even on their website.

DOES ANYONE know if this is true? Should we even bother applying to schools like these if we have taken a few classes at a community college?

It looks like if you've taken a prereq at BU, they wont consider you unless you've taken another higher level course to replace the prereq taken at the CC

Called both colleges today and heres what they said:

BU-They were nice and told me that there is NO WAY AROUND THE PREREQ for the sciences (they have to be taken at a 4year or you need to take upperlev to satisfy this requirement) The other courses like Math and english can be taken at a CC as long as your university youre getting your bachelors degree from accepts them.

Tufts-Have to take upperlevels or redo.

Crossed them off my list. For those who say they did get an interview, either really lucky or they took upperlevs to get the prereqs waived.
