Hi frenz..
I got a score of 90 in part-1 and due to less scores in toefl in CBT of 240, i'm planning to take the TOEFL (IBT) again this weekend..
But i am very confuesd abt the pattern of IBT..
I felt even the Toefl website doesnt state abt it clearly...Its so ambiguos
Plz help me regarding the pattern of the test...especially the speaking section.....and the duration of the test ...n plz advise me how to handle it,the experiences of those who has taken the test, where to find the stdy material online and all tht stuff...If nyone has it i'llbe glad to buy it...😕

i have taken it and waiting for score. but u can study for it from "baron's guide to toefl ibt". i am in los angeles and i got book from the public library. refer this book as toefl ibt is difficult than cbt . don't go unprepared.

I completely understand your state and i have faced this exam twice now.I personally had a 250 on CBT, and gave ibt, casually preparing for about 2 weeks.Actually i thought it would be just ok....u kn ow wat i mean...n i was astonished with the scores i recieved...it was a total of 90...i had a 28 on speaking...... but scored poorly in writing and reading infact pathetically bad..so i thought to take it again and expecting my scores in a day or so...i searched the libraries and sat down for 3 to 4 hours every day at birders and it was not working cause libraries did not have new stuff and how often is it feasible to study at borders etc...so i bought all the material....like i found while researching in borders... princeton was good in few things like beautiful startegies for reading section n barrons in few like tests (i could not read the book that much but was good as much as i read) ...n tests on kaplan book were very good cause u could record your voice and listen to your responses...and also the Ets guide gives you possibly all the types of essay you can get so you can practice...see one thing it is not a care damn easy exam as TOEFL CBT was not at all...you have to have some good practice with some good number of hours...
I have all the material i mentioned except the ETS Guide.....let me know if you are interested....

I know exactly how you are feeling... gave the Ibt a month ago...... while giving the speaking section speak slowly and clearly thats where a lot of mistakes can be corrected ... and as for essays just pick up the Barrons guide theres a lot of essay topics in it and if you dont feel like writing so many essays... just think about what you would write it will help .....

I took TOEFL last month and I had 102. My score in speaking was only 22 while in listening 23, writing 29 and reading 28. I used Kaplan book and found some useful tips on writing and reading plus a series of full length practice tests. You are also given practice tests when you register for TOEFL iBT.
Moreove you can chose b/w cbt and ibt depending upon your previous scores in speaking. If you are not good in speaking you should go for cbt.

I agree with Xerostomia. I am using Kaplan book and ordered book from ETS .
But all sits in New York city area are full for this year. Thanks God my TOEFL will expire in February 2007.

i think the reading section is a lil tricky and i had an extra listening section...thankfully it was not on reading....

I gave my toefl ibt on October 14th and got scores yesterday online(nov 2nd),though the website said they will be declared on Nov 3 rd but i think i got them a day earlier....if you took toefl ibt and on Oct 14 th then you might get them any time on Nov 3rd....so dont worry....or else check the date of exam and date of score declaration on www.ets.org....this will help u know when you will get them...

each university has its own reruirments .some wants ibt score of 70, others need 95..it all depends ..its good to have score of 100 or more on ibt

Hi... i am writing toefl next week but i have no idea about speaking and writing module... can anybod please help and tell that what exactly are we expected to do? It is iBT... how will they do speaking... and in writing are we supposed to write essays and stuff?

I have taken toefl three times within a span of 4 months.First time when I took I didnt prepare.I took it very light and my Score was pathetic. I scored 91(R 24,W 20 L 26,W 20).Again I took the exam within 15 days. This time I bought books from barnes and nobles.I just did the model papers.I thought I will score better.Even then my score was bad,I got 97 (R 27,W20,l 28,S 22)it improved but of no use. Then I really took it serious.I exchanged the barron book for another with Cd rom which simulates the exam.I even bought a tape recorder and practiced my speaking.I wrote few eassays and compared with the one which are available in the book.The third time my score was 110(R 28,W 28,L 28,S 26).
Believe me guys you would be good in every thing like speaking reading listening and writing,but what matters is how you present your self in the exam.Getting a less score implies that you haven't done it in the right way.Many say it is very simple you only need few days preparation.Yes I agree with them but it might not be true to all.Its always better to prepare and give the exam to get an idea what to expect during the exam.My advice go through the barrons and princeton review books. these are available in barnes and nobles.If you think you need extra practice then go for barron's book with cd rom.
For reading attack the questions do not read the entire para because you have only 20 min some questins do require more time.So if you start reading paragraph you may not have sufficient time to ans all the que.Listening concentrate more on what they are saying and do not neglect to take notes they will be very helpfull.Writing section is really very simple.Just follow the writing tips like 1-3-1 introduction stating main point and what your going to explain in the body paragraphs.give lots of examples in the body paragraphs.conclude with restaing the topic and your points in the body.For speaking just follow the barrons tips or princton tips they are very helpful.You might be good speaker but its very funny to speak to the computer.
