i just took my dat today and results are suck 🙁
i really dont know wat to do.. can anyone give me some input if i should retake or not considering my application of dentschool have been sent and i have to wait 90 days to retake the test

Those scores are not bad. Seriously, your PAT is bad, but on average to a lot of dental schools, those scores are very good. I know that you may not think that they are compared to everyone elses unbelievable scores on here, but that doesnt make your score bad. You did very well and im not an expert on how you can get in or what not, but your scores seem very good. Put it this way, I know people that have gotten in with a DAT TS of 17 and 18!

Time to call the schools you're applying to and see what their requirements are. Some schools have minimum scores you must have in each section in order to be considered.

The PAT is low but as for your AA, we have to remember that 20 of the 55 U.S. schools had an 18 AA as their average for matriculated applicants. Lately many have been suggesting a retake for people getting below 20 but even if the numbers go up this year, they won't jump 2 points for most of the schools. Last year everyone was applauding a 19 as well done on this forum and this year it is a different atmosphere. This despite acceptance stats barely creeping up last year (although more people are applying).

That being said, you need to call and see if your 14 will get you automatically disqualified as was suggested. If you can find a school without a low end cutoff you should focus on getting in there. Many schools cut off at 16 or 15.

is it true that schools focus only at dat, or do they consider other parts of the application process?
with that very low scores, does that mean my chance is near to zero?? and if I retake in 3 months, do u think i still have a chance??

If it wasn't for your PAT, I think you'd have a chance. Like others have said, contact the schools to see if they have minimum score requirements

There are many scools that will not accept below a certain score in PAT so look into that. As far as you academic average its not that bad but if you think you can retake it and get a 20-21 then definately do it. You should also try to get an 18 in PAT

I am satisfied though. I am not a super genius like the rest of the folks are in this forum, but I feel good about it and I think you should as well. I would echo what everyone else is saying about your PAT score though. It would be in your best interest to ask your schools about it. It is my understanding that some schools don't even look at the PAT (which I think is lame).

I think you have to re-take just because of your PAT. Your other scores are fine just the PAT I will have A LOT of trouble getting in anywhere. Retake and try to get at least 17-18 on PAT.

I am worried too because Im afraid I might get less than 17 on PAT which would be very bad.

I'm so sorry, I don't mean to scare you or anything.. the problem is my position right now is not very good as I'm actually a foreign student and I know that it'll be extremely hard for me to get in anywhere... unless I'm lucky, which is not the case (plus my PAT suck) 🙁 and if I can't get in anywhere, I would have to go home 🙁 but I'm still taking a chance to at least try.. please don't get me wrong.. I think your score are GREAT!! good job... good luck for you I think you'll be fine...

thanks for posting this.. I called the schools today and it seems like I have to retake.. some schools are ok with it, but most of them said i need to retake.. I can only hope that if i'm lucky, i'll get in somewhere next year otherwise .. i would have to go back to my country.. 😱

don't be afraid... I think you'll be fine... don't be like me, I was afraid even before I did the test and look what i did... I screwed up 🙁 well, maybe it was bc i'm not prepared enough.. i thought i did fine on the kaplan's pratice problem, but turned out i was wrong... nothing's wrong w/ kaplan, i tink it's just me

For stat info go to www.predents.com and on the right side you can sort by criteria.

you can retake in 90 days, you might be able to get in somewhere if your app is already submitted to the right schools that also have later deadlines.
