I'm in much needed help. I just finished my junior year. So this is the summer before my senior year. I submitted my application before my new Summer A classes. I received an F in molecular biology because it was really fast paced (test every week) and didn't think to withdraw because I thought I could pull it up and the date was like 2 weeks in. I am planning to retake it in the fall with a different professor and I know that I will pass. I'm just wondering what I should do because I already submitted it. Should I email the schools? But then the new grade isn't ready till December. 🙁 I've never gotten worse then a C in any class before. What should I do? I am worried because I do know that can't schools technically rescind you for not keeping a C average. And what about the update too in November. It will be passed by the end of December.

You can update till jan or February!! Just don't say anything, maybe you get some interviews!! Then when you do the update after your fall semester ends just make sure you get all A"s...thats what I would do if I was in your shoes!!

Yeah I know, I'm just worried. Any other advice??

When you submitted transcripts, did you tell your registrar to email them immediately, or did you say "defer until the end of the summer session"?

I'm no expert, but I don't think you're under any obligation to report this until after the Fall semester at the earliest, and initial decisions will come out around Dec. 1st. I don't think you will be asked on any supplemental forms or in any interviews about one summer of grades. They don't follow you around and evaluate your every move, they take what you apply with, so you may get a free chance to raise your grade. There's an outside chance that they could rescind an offer, but I would think that would be a little harder once you have it in hand. I'd just consider yourself lucky for being so on the ball with your application.

I did something similar last year with in-state residency, which is long story (and I ended up not technically having to move...and I paid taxes in two states this past February, but I didn't know that last year).

I did it like two weeks ago, so the bad grade is not on the transcripts sent to them. I am retaking the class in the fall semester. So you think I'm good then right? Thank god 🙂

Other than this class, what is your sGPA? If you have retaken other classes, remember that both grades will count.

I have a 3.4 overall and 3.2 science gpa and 3.25 bcp gpa. And I have so many extracurriculars including 150 volunteering hours, research assistant since December for Alzheimer's, teaching assistants for two labs:microbiology &immunology, and proctor for medical class, and two leadership positions (honor society, Haiti club), and then volunteering at the hospital for 100 hours and 50 at a clinic for low income families. I am also a member of two clubs; dental club and pre professional. I have shadowed 100 hours with a general dentist that wrote me a letter and a oral surgeon for 10 hours. my letters are from my neurobiology professor, dentist, physics professor, and my research Pi.

Those are the official grades from aadsas after verification. I have never retaken a class or not passed a class. this is the first time.

I think you're fine. Also, how many credits are calculated into your overall gpa? A poor grade shouldn't change it much if you're already 3 years into college. I wouldn't let this one grade keep you up at night.

I had 90 when I sent transcripts. When I do the update in December it will be up to 120ish. I should still do the update tho correct? I would do it after my fall grades

Definitely do the upgrade. Work hard this fall and that grade shouldn't do much to your gpa

At this point all you can do is relax and make sure your future grades are much better, especially when you retake this class. If I were you, I would be doing everything I could to make sure those fall grades are straight A's, though. IMO you need a semester of A's because even one F can bring down the GPA significantly. Getting high grades will help buffer your GPA and show that you've come back strong from this blunder. Lastly, make sure to have an explanation ready just in case you get asked about what happened.

Tricky, but it might come down to the schools. Some schools may tell you that they want an updated transcript after fall if they haven't made a decision by december 1st. I know someone who got 2 Cs his last semester, but he got in before he submitted the final transcripts.

Oh okay yeah I'll definitely pass good nex time. Different professor and 16 weeks instead of 6.
