I hope that I placed this thread correctly. I'm trying to decide which of these three schools to attend:

UT Southwestern (with a full ride)
Baylor College of Medicine
Drexel College of Medicine

I'm not sure what I want to do as far as residencies go, however I'm pretty sure that I'd like to get out of Texas once I graduate. Would any of these schools be more conducive to matching to residencies in the northeast / Midwest? Or, perhaps, what I'm really asking is will going to UTSW or BCM hurt my chances of matching out of Texas for residency?

Going to UTSW (or BCM) will absolutely not hurt your chances for residency elsewhere if that's what you want to do, and that full ride would be silly to turn down unless there's some compelling reason NOT to be in Dallas. You can certainly match from UTSW to wherever it is you want to be in 4 years; may just have to explain your reasons for wanting to be in that geographical location. You will be fine, take the $$$.

Agreed with what everyone has said. UTSW and Baylor are both more reputable programs than Drexel. Among the two of them, Baylor is probably better than UTSW (for medical school overall, some residency programs are much stronger at UTSW), but this difference isn't enough to turn down free tuition.

What residency programs are better? I know that IM at UTSW is up there do you know which other ones are better?

Surgery (and surgical subspecialties) are strong at UTSW. Their Derm program is strong, as is their rads. Just off the top of my head.

And to OP, this shouldn't even be a question. Take the full ride to UTSW.

UTSW, especially bc of the full ride.

Did some research there. It is the mecca of academic medicine/surgery in Texas (one could argue the whole south).

FULL RIDE means you won't be paying 400-500 dollars a month in residency to keep the interest down while you eek by on your 55k salary.

do you want to pay 300k to watch pathoma in your bed and avoid fake work in a hospital, or watch pathoma in your bed and avoid fake work in a hospital FOR FREEE!?!?!?

OP matriculated a year ago, but keep necrobumping with Drexel hate.

No Drexel hate here, but I did accidentally necrobump thinking this was a current thread. Apologies.

It would be nice if people updated their threads with their decisions. But I guess OP is chained in a basement somewhere in Dallas being forced to memorize cytokines right now.

Sorry, someone responded o the thread before me so i thought this was recent. Less so drexel hate more so the two other schools are higher ranked and way way way less expensive.
