So I've heard that it can help if a med student currently attending a school you are interested in puts in a good word for you. Is there any truth to this? And if so, what do they need to do? I know a couple of people at schools I am interested in, but I want to make sure that this is actually true before I bother them.

Also, does anyone have an idea when the new MSAR comes out? aamc.org says they're sold out. Or does anybody want to sell me their old one?

It probably depends on the school, but I doubt it helps much, unless that student is on the admission committee and knows the dean or something. They might feel uncomfortable doing this anyhow, for a variety of reasons. You'd have to be very close to getting admitted on your own for this kind of help to push you over the edge anyhow -- med students opinions likely tend not to outweigh any other factors.

The new one should come out in May.

I know someone on the admissions committee for a med school and it still hasn't done me any good even after a detailed LOR mentioning his position on the committe. But, oh well!

BUMP

I am curious about admissions help from current medical students as well

I can't imagine it would unless it's someone actually on the admissions committee.

Otherwise the adcom would be inundated with 'good words' from their med students trying to help out all their friends from undergrad.
