Hey guys,

My application was sent out in the 2nd batch. I took my DAT late July and I'm not very happy with my scores: AA 16, TS 18, PAT 20. I did very poorly in the RC and QR section. I'm planning on retaking the DAT late October but I don't know if I still may have a chance to get in this cycle. My overall GPA is 3.73, BCP GPA 3.69 and science GPA 3.70. I have +200 shadowing hours, +300 hrs in research experience and a lot of community service hours. I'm also considered minority (hispanic), I don't know if that matters really.

I applied to Nova, Meharry, Lecom, Tufts, NYU, UFlorida.

Please any advice anyone can give me in regards of what to do now, I would appreciate it.

AA of 16, unfortunately, is just too low - I suggest calling all of the schools to which you applied and letting them know you intend on retaking. They may toss your application in the "to review after retake" pile, but it's better than an immediate rejection. Your GPAs and ECs are really solid (URM status doesn't hurt, either), and with a score of 19+ on the DAT, I think you'd have several acceptances. Good luck, keep up posted on how it goes!

Thanks dude, I appreciate your advice! I will certainly worked on obtaining a +19 on DAT this second time around. I just hope the schools don't reject me right away based on my first score.

If you are retaking and you didn't mention to schools, let them know before they reject you without considering the future DAT scores.

can you apply to more schools? That will help increase your chances!

Go to AADSAS and in the DAT Scores section, put October 2013 where it says Date of Future Score, if you haven't done that already. Then send an email to every school, notifying them about this, just in case. Hang in there y no pierdas la fe... :luck:

Yea I did that right after I took my exam. A second application was sent to the dental schools I applied to, stating I was going to retake the DAT in October, but just be safe, I'm going to follow your advice and I'll notify all the schools via email about my retake. Thank you so much y tranquilo que la fe nunca la pierdo!

There's really not many more options at this point aside from the ones that were suggested by the posters above.....

The reality is that your ethnicity will help you tremendously. In fact, you could probably get into a few schools with your current profile. Of course, increasing your DAT score will open many more doors.

With the inclusion of socioeconomic demographics and/or geographical location that is more-or-less plausible.

Thanks, this really gives me more hope. I know being an URM could work on my favor but I'm not sure if the schools could look past my DAT score regardless my ethnicity. I really hope they can offer me some interviews then I'll submit my new scores

New scores would probably be better and open many doors. Hopefully, you don't get 'filtered' out by a program due to such a current parameter.
