i just certified and transmitted my primary application, and after looking at the final form of the application AFTER i already submitted it... i noticed that my personal statement paragraphs are all stuck together all in ONE paragraph!

is there anything i can do to have that fixed?!?!

that's not a huge mistake. youll be fine.

i would think that adcoms understand that there can be formatting errors.

more importantly, how in the heck was the name "synapse" available? i wouldve thought the sdn nerds wouldve been all over it.

you don't understand... i NEED to have it fixed. it's driving me crazy. i can't even sleep right now cuz i'm so angry the formatting got messed up. the paragraph separations are CRUCIAL to my personal statement. i'm depending on my personal statement to get me accepted. what do i do?!?!?! u think they'll fix it for me if i call them?? 😱

Do. Not. Worry!

I was told by my career services dept last year that they ALL show up like this when you print them out, but the copies that the adcoms receive are just fine. Mine showed up like this. Everyone else's that I knew looked like this. Nobody's application suffered because of it, because it's not the same as what the adcoms see!

You are FINE!!!!!!!!

sarah's right....chill.....they're all like that...go sleep...

you absolutely cannot change it. you're fine, get over it.

All of my paragraphs look just fine...with blank lines between them and everything (when printing from AMCAS). Don't know why it isn't working for everyone else.

Mine too. I had to put 2 line breaks between each paragraph, though. I remember freaking out a little the first time I printed it, and then went back and added an extra line break. So word to the wise - use the print function to double-check your formatting before submitting.

That's a HUGE mistake? A typo must be the end of the world. 😉

My formatting was fine, no changes necessary. Weird.

Good to know. Mine did this too (last year's app. cycle), but I guess I am a little more laid back about such matters and just went "oh well" and forgot about it. Nothing you can do, you know? Hand it over to fate, man. 😀

I previewed mine and it looked like that, so I fixed it. I bet the adcoms will think less of the folks that didn't fix it, since attention to detail is so important in medicine :meanie:

Really, I'm pulling your chain. Email them and see if they can fix it. If they can't, this just became an opportunity for another important doctor skill, letting go of things you can't change.

Hi,
I am just getting ready to submit mine. Do you have to hit enter twice between each paragraph to show the split or how does that work out?
Thanks.
kid.

....I'm speechless...

If you get rejected from medical school, it won't be because of paragraph separations on your PS.

i'm "synapse." anyway, ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! i called amcas, and they said they can't change it. ITS PERMANENT. my beautiful essay now looks like one freakin long paragraph!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!before submitting it, it looked fine... i separated each paragraph with two spaces instead of a hard return. !@#$. what should i do?!?!!?!?!?!?!/!?!?!! 😡

This what I got from AMCAS regarding one big paragraph:

Thank you for contacting AMCAS.

Please note that, because the Essay is in a straight text field, it
will appear on the printed application in block form, without formatting.
If the essay looks correct in the online application, and you are using
a required browser (please see "Required Browsers" on the AMCAS 2005
page), then this is how the medical schools will see it.

If you have any questions or if we can be of additional assistance,
please contact us at [email protected] or (202) 828-0600.

d'oh! say goodbye to your medical career! 👍

My friend isn't Seventh Day Adventist and she got into Loma Linda with that problem. I think you need a perscription of Chill Pills (250 mg).

umm...i think a huge mistake would have been forgetting to list a college you attended or something like that. there is absolutely nothing you can do at this point but give yourself an ulcer, so chill out.

My insurance only covers the generic equivalent, Relaxx HCL.

Have you not listened to one word anyone has said?

I think the important thing to realize is that you finished and sent out your application, which is a major step in the entire process (duh!). You should be happy that you got over that big hump, and worry about other things more important (august MCATs maybe?), and let fate handle things such as this. Maybe your lil "error" catches an ad comm reader's eye, and they feel like you didn't indent or whatever cuz your story was sooooo compelling, that you didn't feel the necessity for any breaks. He/She might like your "style", and they might remember it more while skimming through the pool of other essays. Being unique is a good thing no? Wow, I wish I had a PS like that! 😀 So don't worry anymore, ceste la vie!

Mine did that as well...I just said **** it and got high, I think you need to follow my example. Or take those chill pills...

since u "double spaced" it or whatever... when they get the app, they'll probably see it like however you sent it to them. 👍

That's your huge mistake!?! I accidentally checked "female" and had to show up to all my interviews in drag! Boohoo, your PS is one paragraph...I HAVE TO BE A WOMAN FOR THE REST OF MY MEDICAL CAREER!!....or at least until I can convince people that I had a sex change operation and change back...

Synapse, you should calm down. How are you going to survive medical school if every little thing threatens a human combustion :meanie:

No, you're doomed

i dont think you've really listened to what others have said about it not being an issue. ADCOMS know the issues with the AMCAS online and are not going to refuse a position based on spacing. You're just too high strung - are you one of those people who after the MCAT was thinking "oh no, did i erase that one choice well enough? what if it still scans it? omg im going to get a 2"
