Help, I'm from Harvard and I've been rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I agree.
Handling rejection is part of life, though, so I guess if the students never faced it before, then it's good they are teaching them about it.

That's kind of sad. Really??

Everyone should experience some degree of failure and rejection growing up just to learn how to deal with it, but it seems that in order to get into Harvard any hint of a failure precludes you from getting admitted. Add to that things like grade inflation and it's no wonder that Harvard grads need help with handling failure.

So I think it makes sense for Harvard to hold rejection seminars - a lot of those kids have probably never experienced any failures or rejections in their lives (or if they have, they've been fixed by their parents). For some of them, a rejection might very well seem like the end of the world.

I do kind of feel bad for them. Life is so much easier when you're made aware of your mediocrity from a young age...

I dont have too much sympathy.

And I dont think being waitlisted at every single medical school you apply too is much of a "grim tale". He's a doctor now so he obviously got in somewhere.

Reading that made me immediately think of this:

Cornell, heard of it?

Rejection in general isn't hard to deal with. Rejection by something/someone you love is. I've been rejected so many times in my life, but wouldn't trade what I have for any of those.

The posters with negative comments in this thread were either rejected by Harvard undergrad or wanted to attend Harvard undergrad but weren't good enough to even apply. Seriously, get over it. You didn't go to Harvard. Are you going to spit venom the rest of your life?

Get off your high horse.

I never even considered applying to Harvard and I still think it is funny. Rejection is a part of life and I think it's funny that people need a seminar about it in college, implying they have NEVER dealt with it before and need an eye opener now that they are adults and may at some point get rejected from something.

Went to Harvard for ugrad. Never heard about these mythical seminars. Must be a new thing. Very interesting..

No, I did not go to Harvard for undergrad and I will not apply to Harvard for Med school. I think it is funny that the over privileged ivy leaguers are so used to getting what they want that a bunch of 22 year olds need someone to tell them how to deal with rejection.

this is like the most ironic post per thread topic

Getting rejected by a girl always helps gain some experience... haha
