Okay so I just graduated college and I too was one of those people who practice tested much higher than what I got on the actual MCAT. Additionally, I messed up my freshman year pretty bad so I pretty much look like crap to any medical school right now. Because of this I am going to Duquesne for a post-bac program next year to make my application look better and take grad level pre-med classes.

Facts about situation:

Duquesne has a direct linkage program to LECOM and if I get a 3.3 at Duquesne next year I am pretty much guaranteed acceptance into LECOM for 2010 WITHOUT retaking my MCAT.

If I don't do the linkage program I have to wait two years to enter med school, finish my masters, and would be able to apply normally to MD or DO schools for 2011, however I would have to re-take my MCAT and would not be guaranteed admissions anywhere but I would have much more flexibility over where I can go (assuming I get accepted)

I NEED ADVICE!!!! It's such a huge decision to make.

What would you do? 😕

how much is "pretty much guaranteed?" Do you think you'll be able to get the 3.3 you need? Do you want to do D.O., or do you really, really want an M.D.?

If it were me, I'd probably go with the post-bac at Duquesne. If worst comes to worst, and you don't get into LECOM, you'll still have done a post-bac to improve your application at ANY school, and you'll just have to re-do your MCAT. If that's the case, you'll be out two years, just like if you'd not done the post-bac. But if there's a good chance you'll get that 3.3, I'd go with that.

"pretty much guaranteed" means they've only ever had one person rejected from the linkage and that was because they were just plain weird on their interview.. so i'm not too concerned lol

Do you think it would be worth turning down post-bac programs at better schools (Penn, Georgetown, Drexel) for the assurance of the linkage?
