Hi! Super grateful to have As from MSOM (Meritus) and TouroCOM Harlem; I have an idea of what I'd like to do, but would still like to run it by y'all!

MSOM

Pros:
-Seemed super enthusiastic about me as an applicant, making me feel comfortable and like I would bring something to the table as a student- which I really liked.
-a bit cheaper than Touro
-Brand new/state-of-the-art school with BEAUTIFUL on-campus housing
-can make more connections with fellow students; we are all living on campus
-smaller town: less distractions

Cons:
-farther away from home than I'd like (I went to undergrad in MD though, so I am familiar with the general vicinity)
-brand new program- their first class- so no knowledge of their match rates/ effectiveness of the curriculum
-virtual/ simulated anatomy lab (I have heard that this is a con before)

TouroCOM

Pros:
-close to home, and I've always wanted to move to NYC
-established school with high match rates
-rotation affiliations with many hospitals in the NY-metro area, which may be beneficial to establishing residency connections/networking (??)

Cons:
-would have to find my own housing close to campus, which is going to be extremely expensive in the NYC area
-I'm afraid of feeling isolated if I don't live near my peers on a campus- but then again, I'm sure I'll still make friends I can study with.
-flipped classroom- this one has both pros and cons, I suppose.

Please feel free to provide any and all insights/thoughts/opinions. Thank you!!

Update: I have chosen Touro and am super excited!! Thank you all for your support and insights!!

At residency application time you’ll want a school with a reputation that residency directors recognize!
Eh to the MD world, it’s still a DO is a DO is a DO. Unless it’s close to the school and there is regional reputation.

That distinction is fading over time
Interesting. Not the 3 academic centers I have trained/will be faculty at but of course that’s limited across the nation. What I’ve seen is those that read sdn or anything are dragging all DO reputations down. Not learning the difference of the specific schools
