My friend has just received his MCAT score and he is wondering what schools he can afford with his stats. He has 3.3c/3.2s/28(10,9,9). He has a steep upward trend. His involvements in EC's are pretty decent. He has been working full-time since he started college, and for the past year, he has been working in clinical laboratories. He is a SoCal resident and would love to attend a school in the West Coast, preferably in SoCal. His top choice by far is WesternU/COMP, but he is welling to go wherever he gets accepted. He has filled out his AACOMAS application and it's ready for submission once he decides what school he is going to apply to.

Knowing that his budget will allow him to apply to 15 schools max, what schools, other than WesternU do you guys think he should submit his primary application to?

Thanks

@Ibn Alnafis MD ...TUNCOM, AZCOM, SOMA, TouroCA, RVUCOM, KCUMB, KCOM, NSUCOM, LMU-DCOM, PCOM-GA, ACOM, CUSOM, MU-COM

This is a good list: Schools in the West Coast and some low tier in the East Coast that your friend has excellent chance to get into...

I would suggest:

Western U (Both)
AT Still Arizona
RVU
Touro - NV/CA
AZCOM
KCUMB
KCOM
VCOM
LMU
PCOM-GA
NSU
MUCOM

I think that would be fine.

NSUCOM is east coast and isn't low tier.
I know that, but OP stats are not that bad so I thought he might get some luck at Nova even if they are getting more selective these days...

I put it on there too but you said low tier DO on the east coast so I just wanted to point that out.

Thank you both for your responses. I'm wondering, wouldn't he be screened out at KCUMB for having a science GPA lower than 3.25?

I was told this cut off is not set in stone... I have seen SDN posters who got in with <3.25 sGPA...

Another question,

He is anticipating an LOR from a well-known DO (he has one from an MD already) but it won't be available for submission for another week. Is is worth it to wait 7-10 more days until he gets the letter before applying, or should he go ahead and submit his application this week?

submit this week. LOR's are sent in along with the secondary or before the interview for most schools

You know what kcumb might not be a good idea. I thought it was 3.2 but I checked it 3.25. So replace that one haha.
