So I need to spend 4000 in CME money by the end of the year. Because we have a toddler at home and a new baby one week ago, traveling is pretty much out of the question. Can't buy electronics (i.e. laptop, big screen monitor, etc.). So it's pretty much left to books (I already own all the staples), software, paying for medical licensure, etc.

So here's some items I have thought about:

1. maxing out my ACEP membership for as long as I can purchase it.

2. Joining other professional groups

3. Buying PEPID

4. Renewing EM:RAP

5. Buying a bunch of books on Amazon and then returning them after I get reimbursed and pocketing the cash (my partner's recommendations but seems shady to me).

How else would you spend the money?

Just an idea.. audio digest used to give a free ipad with a 2 year subscription. I dont know if they changed that.

There may be other similar things.

See if you can pre-pay for the future board review course + lodging of your choice.

Re-up all the merit badges.

Get some tools: electronic scope, slit lamp lenses for retinoscopy, schiotz, personal laryngoscope w/ disposable blades.

Cheers!

Why don't you go to ACEP, bring the family, and have a kick-ass week in Denver?

What can I say... I'm a travel junkie.

AAEM membership.
Challenger gives you a free ipad if you spend $6300, so I wouldn't call it a deal.
I bet there are some other "lifetime" CME items out there that may be more cost effective for you.

PEPID is a mistake. Its so hard to use. WikEM is free and better.

I refuse to give you more advice until you get rid of that Beiber picture. 🙂

I'm going to second the AAEM recommendation.

Uptodate and Pepid are solid choices. Pepid just ran a special where you could renew for 3 years and get (an admittedly cheap) android e-reader. It's no ipad, but if you have a less tech savy family member or a kid that needs less than an ipad offers it is something.

Is an exceptionally solid textbook.

Is helpful to have with you if you ever actually really need to see a fundus.
