Hi everyone! I was fortunate to receive acceptances this decision day and have narrowed it down to these 3 options.

A little background about me --- I am a California resident so out of my options, I am OOS for all and have been going crazy trying to make a decision because I respect all the programs greatly and could envision myself there. My priorities are cost of tuition, location (weather + fun atmosphere), and best preparation for the field to be a GP.

Post:
School 1: Midwestern AZ (OOS)

Pros:
  • Went to undergrad in AZ -- feels like home
  • Loved the multidisciplinary campus and the vibe of the staff
  • Amazing clinical experience, arguably the best
  • Extremely advanced technologically
  • Certificates in implants, lasers, and invisalign
  • No residency program -- access to complex cases
Cons:
  • Really don't like Glendale, AZ area -- would most likely have to commute from Scottsdale
  • The summer heat was deathly
  • If I can't fly home, it's easy for me to drive 5hr.
School 2: OHSU (OOS)

Pros:
  • Oregon is so beautiful and the campus is gorgeous
  • Very small class sizes, 6/1 faculty ratio
  • Love interdisciplinary building and getting to mingle with all health care professionals
  • I was informed that the tuition would be cheaper than other options even as an OOS but please correct me if I'm wrong
Cons:
  • Would have to fly home because it's slightly further away
  • Afraid as a Californian I won't really fit into Oregon-- I love nature but I've never been a big hiker or anything like that and felt like the vibe of the people there was so nice but definitely I felt different like I don't fit in
School 3: Roseman (OOS)

Pros:
  • 3 year program - as an older applicant I definitely like the idea of finishing a year early and am not intimidated by the pace. I would love to use the 4th year to do a residency
  • block curriculum
  • faculty was insanely nice and I felt like the students that went there were so chill and nice. A lot of them were from california so that also made for a home-like feeling.
  • pass/fail
Cons:
  • I've been told Roseman's curriculum does not let students feel prepared after graduation
  • Exploring the surrounding city of the school I noticed a huge lack of diversity and felt a little uncomfortable -- but nothing that I wouldn't get over within a month
  • Not really sure about what to do in Utah but I guess it would help me focus in school more
Summary: Here you can talk about which school you're leaning towards, or what things are really important to you from your pros/cons list.

As of now, I've ranked the schools:
1. MWU
2. OHSU
3. Roseman

However, MWU and OHSU are really close for me. I would really love any insight that anyone can provide me. Especially information regarding tuition. It's been really hard for me to pull numbers for what the cost of attendance will be at each school.

Appreciate the help!

oregon is cheaper than mw-az and is pass-fail...

Do you know the exact numbers? I’ve been having the hardest time finding the cost of attendance for each school

Learn to do the homework...

yeah, i realized i should have emphasized this more
it's WELL over $100k difference...
Oh wow thank you — I just saw that! That it definitely a huge factor to consider. Do you think the certificates (Invisalign, implant, etc.) at MWU are a big factor in terms of having a better curriculum? I also always hear about MWU clinical experience being amazing

My 2 cents as a roseman student in the 3-year program:

Go to Roseman if you want to be a general dentist. They are very good at creating general dentists, and the 3-year program with the block curriculum (Pass/Fail) is heavenly. Roseman is very weak if you want to specialize.

Culture is extremely laid back in the school, after assessments a lot of people like to go skiing and take it easy (Block schedule so 1 class at a time). Not sure about other programs but I love it at Roseman. I have been in dental school for a year and a half (halfway done), and I feel like I am decently ready to graduate (for sure, will be in another year and a half). I have done countless restorations, exams, cleanings, and extractions in the clinic. I feel competent in diagnosing and performing simple restorations MO, DO, MOD, etc. on any teeth. Side note: I did my 1st core build-up before the break; I spent 1 hour on the prep and another hour on the restoration (pretty slow haha). Anyways, Roseman is a great program for general dentists, and I am extremely happy with my experience with the faculty and my classmates. We also have a ton of people from CA that attend Roseman and many of them fly home often on weekends back to California after assessments.
