Hello Everyone!!!

I'm 28yrs old, and will finally be graduating with my BS in psychology this coming May, I will be applying to medical school in June and my husband and I would like to have our first child during my gap year before medical school. Due to the fact that I have primary infertility I feel that time is of the essence, however this means more than likely I would possibly be pregnant during medical school interviews. Will this affect my chances??

I really doubt it would. Just go in ready to impress them and give an air of confidence in your abilities to handle med school and the baby. I have a couple women who very recently gave birth to children in my MSI class. I'm just guessing but there were at least one or two that had to have been pregnant during their interviews.

You are 28, so you've already got a lot of life experience in handling multiple stresses, and are mature enough to understand what you are getting yourself into. You wouldn't even be at the interview if you thought you couldn't handle it, and I'm sure that's a fact that won't get overlooked.

As far as them being biased towards you, i cannot give you advice since i havent applied yet.

But I am pregnant right now and the 2nd and 3rd months were horrible for me with morning sickness and exhaustion. I couldnt do anything!!! Then after that it was just other symptoms that continued to make me miserable.

Everyones body is different so you may not even have morning sickness. But the first 3 months is when all the important organs are developing/forming so you may feel more tired than usual since your body is working overtime.

If this is what you really want take into consideration on the physical changes your body will be going through as well as the emotional.

Although the gap may be a better time to get pregnant rather than it happening during medical school.

Good Luck!

There was somebody on the women's interview clothing forum asking about maternity suits this cycle. I don't know if it would affect your chances, but you wouldn't be the first to do an interview while pregnant. Good luck !

Thanks for the advice!!!!! I figured since I'm taking a gap year to do cardiovascular research with the school I plan to attend, I might as well go ahead and have a little. I'm trying to avoid getting pregnant during the four years of medical school. This seems like the most logically plan right now. Good Luck to you as well!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice!!! It really helped ease my mind 😍

I have read about women being pregnant during interviews and nothing negative was said. My husband and I are planning on having our second child during our gap year, if we are ready for a second by then.

Great!!!!!! 🙂

regardless what is the worst that happens?

You don't get a first cycle acceptance, have a great reason to glide a bit for a year with your first child, enjoy their infancy and re-apply the following cycle w/o the added complication of being pregnant.

I don't see an issue either way.
