soooo...we havent had one of these in a while 😛 and silly me, i thought that maybe i would be able to choose on my own but its turning out to be a much more difficult choice than i thought! ok here goes my dilemma..

NSU
Pros: awesome facilities, good support (staff and profs), good board rates (95% i was told in my interview), and good rotations, good matches in fl (and some n.east coast), i'm also in fl so it would be easy for me to move down there and i could take all of my furniture/stuff

Cons: must stay in FL 3rd year on lottery (so i could potentially end up in okahumpka, po-dunk fl..), weather (HOT&humid all year round+hurricanes), and i really dislike s.fl....ive been living in fl for the past 4 years and whenever i go to s.fl i just feel like im entering rich-miami hummer, bmw-ville...i dont know people seem very superficial..and lastly, close enough to my future mother-in-law to drive me crazy

oh, and i dont really care about the dress code/attendance policy...im ok with it

COMP
Pros: awesome rotations in cali, kids seem awesome (laid back&friendly, i must say i was very impressed), can leave 3rd year if you want (can even do rotations overseas for credit), good matches in w.coast, and fiance would 😍 to move out here because hes in art biz...
Cons: (from what ive heard!) staff is not very supportive esp. during 1st year, board rates are avg. (some have said as low as 70%?), facilities are ok

So basically...i would love to live in california and get out of fl but i just feel like overall NSU has more resources, money to spend on their kids, and has more opportunities to offer. but i loved the atmosphere at comp, the students there were super nice and the school was small, which i liked. i just have still heard that the admin at comp is not as helpful with both keeping their students happy and with rotations....

help SDNers!!!! 🙂

reallyyyyyyyyyy wow.. I am surprized. Who told you this!

I asked this question as well at my interview.. and the guy... looked away from me, his eye balls rotated to the North East and said about 95%. But they are getting Kaplan course to help them out.. hmmmm

I am sorry I don't want to discourage you .. NSU is a good school if you make the best of it... but the dress policy sucks.

FYI about COMP man:

-you won't be able to do away rotations anymore for core in 3rd year unless it's like NW track. they just changed a lot of the policies for rotations, and some suck but others don't.

-however, board scores at COMP aren't that low. not even close-i've heard it from the most realible sources there are.

COMP is a great place. the administration has been wonderful to us, because we're nice and friendly and we don't bitch all the time. plus we have high averages, which they love. our class' student government stressed the importance of collectively staying positive and being professional, and it's paid off big time in just one semester. there's only been one sucky thing, but they're taking care of that.

good luck and hope to see you here next fall!

Our board rate is not 95% I can say that for sure.

I love our resources and I have absolutly NO problem with the dress code...none. I wear PJs to school everyday.

with that being said I'll take South Florida over LA anyday. Its crazy there and super expensive to live. If its where you want to be go for it. I lived there for 10 years and spent last week there...glad I only visit now.

I can only speak for NSU. As far as rotations go, you actually dont have to stay in Florida because you can also go to Georgia and Alabama such as Atlanta, Montgomery, Birmingham, etc. They are working on adding a few other places in the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Kentucky within the next two years. Also, most of the sites in Florida are in decent sized cities such as Orlando, Tampa, Fort Meyers, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, etc. Your fourth year, you can go whereever you want, including overseas for credit. As far as faculty support goes, you win some and you lose some. Some of our professors and admin are very supportive while some seem to not really give a damn. The class composition, as far as being laid back and all, will vary from year to year in my opinion. I think that a plus for NSUCOM is that we have the undergraduate campus and numerous professional schools here - such as denistry, optometry, pt, ot, pa, law, etc. which is cool b/c we get to do health fairs and things like that together. Also, we are offered a scholarship (full tuition and fees) to complete a MPH at NSUCOM. They set up the classes so that you can easily complete the degree in your four years (your last two years are set up so that you dont have to be on campus to complete the degree). As for board scores, I have been told that we tend to barely beat the national average and then that we got a 95% last year but didnt do near as well this year but I can not confirm this. It seems like we usually get a song and dance about how admin is happy with our numbers but we are never really given a hard number. We are offered a Kaplan course of which the school foots half the bill and the other half is added to our costs of attendance so that financial aid will cover it - you dont have to take it if you dont want to. We get five weeks to study for Step 1 after finals, which is cool. The dress code is a joke - scrubs or professional - I wear scrubs every day and love it. The attendance policy, however, can be a pain sometimes. I think our hands-on training in our first two years is a good plus for NSUCOM and Harvey is awesome if you are interested in Cardiology. A BIG con is that we are in class A LOT! Pro or Con - most exams are on Monday so you have all weekend to study on one hand but you hardly ever get a weekend off on the other. Personally, I like it but that will vary from person to person. We are getting a huge gym and hospital but that will be a few years down the road. Hope this helps; good luck with your decision.

you should go to COMP for one simple reason. im gonna be there next year

all joking aside, you will be happy at both, so dont think you are making a bad choice. just choose the one you feel most excited about for whatever reason cause you will need it once the classes start kicking your arse. cause i know when they start kicking mine, im gonna be like "well you chose this dummy!"

hehehehe.. the big coat and mittens and long underwear etc... use to cover up the access fat I had. NOW that is gone.. maybe I should reconsider FL. Show off some muscles...

Ladies in scrubs.. hmmmm niceeeee... I should say it is much better then having these stupid girls sitting in the front with RED thongs sticking out. 😱 MAN I use to get so distracted in Undergrad when they did that. Just because they have A.D.D. The worst is when you know that they should not be wearing a thong, cause they are too big.. but yet they insist on it. Don't get me started.. it is friday morning and I have to get back to scientific discoveries.

One more thing, in the hospital where I work, I sometimes put on my scrubs/lab coat Dr.Evil. And I put my Viagra pen (I got it free at a conference) in the pocket so everyone can see.

And this is big in my decision-making process!! 😀

like i said, the dress code/attendance doesnt bother me, i think wearing scrubs really isnt vey professional but whatever, it is like wearking PJs...and im pretty anal when it comes when going to class...yes im a dork.. 😛
i guess my problem with nsu is not the school, im not worried about it, im worried about s.fl...i feel like its latin america with a boob job! (does that make sense!?!) and im from guatemala so im not being racist or anything...ive never lived there though, only gone down to visit friends that live there or in miami...how do you guys like living down there?

oh and how does the shopping compare around the two? 😀 now that could make the difference!
