A buffer is prepared by adding 5.00 of ammonia and 18.0 of ammonium chloride to enough water to form 2.50 of solution.

Write the complete ionic equation for the reaction that occurs when a few drops of nitric acid are added to the buffer.

AND

Write the complete ionic equation for the reaction that occurs when a few drops of potassium hydroxide solution are added to the buffer.

PLEASE HELP ME!

I have tried these equations for the first part that do not work:

H3O+(aq) + NH3(aq) ---> NH4+(aq) + H2O(l)

NH3(aq)+H+(aq) --->NH4+(aq)

for the second one:

K+ + OH- (aq) + NH+ + Cl- (aq) --> K+ & Cl- (aq) & NH3(aq) & H2O(l)

are the quantities in moles? Do you need help balancing the equation or setting it up? How come you don't have ammonium chloride listed?
