topscore question-exam 3 #41

electron config. of Zn2+ = Ar{4s0 3d10)

but i thought that since 3d fills after 4s, the e- would be removed from the d first (the highest level)

also i know there was a question on ethers...they are non-polar and are not soluble in water?! right?

anyone know? 😀

e-s are always removed from the orbital with the largest principle quantum number first. Although 4s will fill before 3d, e-s will be removed from 4s before 3d. In addition, look at the number of e-s in the d orbital. Ten, right? That's a pretty happy ion.
