I got scholarship to study language in a foreign country and i will be going there for about 8 weeks this summer. I am planning to submit my application (both AMCAS & TMDSAS ) by June 15 before leaving.
There may or may not be an internet connection on site and I was wondering if this is going to be a problem to follow up on the application ? Is there anything I need to be paying attention to ( other than the secondaries) while i'm outside ?
If anyone gone through this, please let me know of your experiences.

Also, this scholarship has any weight on the application?

Thanks.

You will be "behind schedule" if you do not submit secondaries promptly. It isn't the end of the world but you will be at the end of a long queue when you do submit the secondary. However, given the electronic systems now in place, if you are a strong applicant by the numbers or you attend one of the adcom member's favorite feeder schools, or are from the right state, you could get moved to the front of the pack.

Yes, if it is Spanish. If not, most likely no weight.

Thanks for the advice LizzyM...

Do adcoms prefer someone from their favorite feeder school?

I am at loss then 🙁

Well, feeder schools by definition have supplied a great number of students to school x in the past, so I would assume that makes a difference..

I posted this elsewhere, but know that some schools may still require you to physically snail-mail the supplemental app and/or the payment, like EVMS, SUNY Downstate, USC, etc. That may have changed this year though

What I meant is that you might be looked at earlier than someone who is from someplace else. Each of us has our favorites but we're expected to get through our assigned stack of applications within 2 weeks so it doesn't help much. What does move people to the top of the big overall pile of applications is good numbers. I think that this has been a game changer over the past 3 years. An application can come in weeks after some others but move to the top of the heap because it rises to the top on a "sort by MCAT" or "sort by gpa" function. It wasn't as easy to do that with a paper system.

This only relates to when the adcom members look at your application. Some adcoms do love some schools and other adcom members love different ones. When people say this is a crap shoot, that's what they are talking about. Sometimes it is just luck of the draw who is assigned to look at your application and decide to recommend you for interview or not.

Critical Language Scholarship?

@ LizzyM .. thanks again. Do you think my 3.87 Gpa and 37 Mcat would put me at least in the middle of the pile if not on top in case if I fail to submit secondaries on time ( by August 15 in my case)

@ HAV000.... I am not applying to any of those schools 🙂

@ Pose ... I don't know if it's critical. This scholarship is offered through language department at my school. I am double majoring in this language along with chemistry and it was offered to only one other student besides me. It pays for the whole stay and study abroad.

By "on time," you mean the SDN conventional wisdom, not program-specific, deadlines I assume? Or are you referring to the AMCAS primary deadline? If you submit the primary after the deadline, you are done. Come back next year. As a point of reference, though, I had similar numbers as yours and submitted primary and secondaries on or right at their respective, actual deadlines (Oct 15, Dec1). It didn't hinder me getting into where I wanted to go, but my EC's/background is non-trad and pretty strong, so YMMV. Best of luck.

Lizzy M...thank you so much for that confidence boost.

Pons...Yes I meant the SDN conventional wisdom regarding secondaries.
Thanks and best of luck to you too .
