Help, Spaced repition ?

Hello,

my problem is i just don't know how to memorize ?

let's say this paragraph

Turner syndrome (TS) is a condition in which a femaleis partly or completely missing an X chromosome.[1] Signs and symptoms vary among those affected. Often, a short and webbed neck, low-set ears, low hairline at the back of the neck, short stature, and swollen hands and feet are seen at birth. Typically they arewithout menstrual periods, do not develop breasts, and are unable to have children. Heart defects, diabetes, and low thyroid hormone occur more frequently. Most people with TS have normal intelligence. Many, however, have troubles with spatial visualization such as that needed for mathematics.[2] Vision and hearing problems occur more often.


do i need to memorize all this pargraph by heart or like memorizing the ideas , i mean like

i read this phrase : Turner syndrome (TS) is a condition in which a femaleis partly or completely missing an X chromosome

and i ask myself define Turner syndrome and repeat it in my head only one time and if i get it right i go to the second idea and read it :

Signs and symptoms vary among those affected. Often, a short and webbed neck, low-set ears, low hairline at the back of the neck, short stature, and swollen hands and feet are seen at birth

and ask myself , what are the symptoms of turner syndrome , and as always i answer the question in my head and move to the next idea until the end of the lesson , and then review it a second time after x days and another day and another day



let's say for the first pargraph , i find it really easy visualize a picture (like for the definition of turner syndrome a women with x on her forehead ) and remember the picture for for the next 5-10 min and automatically the image remember me for the words but after an hour the memory starts fading until i forget it, is it a good method or i should stop ?

i just want to be a good doctor not to only pass exams , because i do pass exams but i feel like i'm not getting any sharper in medicine

Download anki and read the article. You will be a flashcard/memorizing genius in no time. Anki is a spaced repetition flashcard program that is relatively easy to use and is IMO the best way to learn/memorize material like you are describing.

Also, FWIW, passing your exams WILL make you sharper in medicine, however it takes time. Don't feel bad if you don't remember every single fact you had for your last exam a month or so after the fact, that is normal. The material is still in your head somewhere.

thank you for your reply , but i kinda feel flashcards are not the option for me , it just make me memorize not understand the material , and the biggest problem i had with flashcards when i used them is that they don't let you see the big picture and they kinda make you over confident about the material

I understand your concern and I feel like this is a common misconception with flashcard use. I had the same misconception when I started using flashcards myself, but now that is almost the only way I study. The key is to make sure you understand a fact first before you make a flashcard for it and also make flashcards that test your conceptual understanding of the material also. Once you understand the material and begin to review it in a spaced repetition manner, your understanding won't fade.

maybe i'll start using flashcards in the next year , because i am now only 1 month away from exams and i think start using flash cards now will take a long time and i'll fail
