Ok guys Well I took the MCAT april 2006 and got P12 V7 B11 L. I applied with this for 2007 and got two interviews, was waitlisted in one but I didn't get in. GPA 3.5, science about 3.45

I retook MCAT on Aug. 14, 2007 and just got my scores back P9 V9 B12 Q. I have already sent in my applications but have not turned in my secondaries yet. Do I even have a chance? I don't want to get into the best medical school or anything, I just want to get in somewhere so I can become a doctor. I was also wondering if I would have a chance at any of the UC schools since I am from cali. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my school list so far:

Albany Medical College
Drexel University College of Medicine
George Washington University Sch of Med & Hlth Sci
Jefferson Medical Coll. of Thomas Jefferson Univ.
Meharry Medical College
Michigan State University
New York Medical College
Oregon Health and Science University
State University of New York Downstate Medical Cen
SUNY at Buffalo Medical School
SUNY Upstate Medical University
Temple University School of Medicine
UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicin

Thanks guys.

Don't delay any more, go for it if your budget allows.

Which schools did you get interviews at last year and which one waitlisted you?

I got interviews at Oregon and Drexel and was waitlisted at Drexel. Oh man but that decrease in PS sucks. I'm going to get my secondaries out all the secondaries out by monday. I have like 12 to finish : ). Fun. But most of them are ready to go.

Same here, my PS fell from 12 to 9 this year, but my overall went up, so it's all good.

I'm sorry about your PS. My overall stayed the same but I improved in verbal and writing which was the problem last year so hopefully they'll understand. I just got really nervous at teh beginnin of the exam and it was hard to get used to the flickering screen at first.

Alright, here is my situation. Just got my August 14th results as follows...

PS 9 VR 8 BS 11 WS R

My GPA is 3.7

Extracurriculars: Research, work at hospital, plenty of shadowing, SGA President, Eagle Scout, Resident Assistant

Basically I think I'm pretty strong on the extracurricular side and the GPA side. Tell me what you think...

You should apply n get in everything asap. I think if you apply to reasonable schools you should be fine.

To the OP.

From what I gather your score is more solid, even though it may not look like it.

Your stats look similar to mine, except i have your old mcat score instead. I think you have decent chance at those schools you applied. It's not just about numbers, you know?

p.s. you know jefferson averages your mcat scores, right?

Holy crap, I didn't know that. So if I have a 27 and a 31 they'll count me as 29?

For what it's worth, I read somewhere that Tufts takes the best score in each section....

I guess there's some hope afterall. Man, I applied to 16 schools, but now with the crazy stats and the whole thread about 500 people with 40/4.0's and all the other craziness out there I think I might have to bump up my list to 40+ schools just so I can have a shot with my measley 3.8/31 at this stage of the game.

Oh, quit it. Don't succumb to the SDN insanity. I have a 3.7/30 and I'm doing fine, and I applied to 26 schools. So long as you make sure to apply to your state schools and a decent number of schools that you're competitive at, you're fine. You're more than your numbers (unless that's all you have to offer - which I'm sure is not the case).

Thanks guys for all your help. Any other schools you guys recommend that I should consider? I just don't like the way my score looks now : (.

understand that this forum is filled with approx 1000 people who do not make up necessarily the bulk of the applicant pool. The average matriculant for 2006 was a 30.4 with a 3.64

You are going to do fine. Just make sure you rock your interviews which you will recieve but make sure you get your secondaries in on time. Have confidence and show them that you really want it. I'm sure you will get in.

Just remember that those are final class stats and most people don't want to be strung along until June to figure out if they have to reapply or not.
