Hello there,
I have a question concerning tuition throughout the four years of study. Is the tuition for years 2, 3, and 4 the same as that reported for year 1? I am confused because everyone says tuition increases every year by 5%. Is this increase in tuition for only those starting the program that year or does it apply to also dental students in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year?
Thanks everybody!

every school is different

To answer your questions, straight tuition is usually the same each year but the fees will change the actual cost of that year because you're buying a bunch of stuff 1st and 2nd year that you don't have to buy 3rd and 4th year. Below is an example of the % increase you are confused about. It occurs across the board for all classes.

Usually you can find the rates posted online for a particular school, for example (tuition example only):

Fake School of Dentistry, 2014-2015 Tuition rates
D1: $40,000
D2: $40,000
D3: $40,000
D4: $40,000

-1 year later-

Fake School of Dentistry, 2015-2016 Tuition rates (after 5% increase)
D1: $42,000
D2: $42,000
D3: $42,000
D4: $42,000

Does that make sense? It depends on what year you are but you can always look at the next year (if you're a D1, look at the current D2 tuition and assume it will go up 5%). It's not that tuition from D1 to D4 goes up 5%, it's that the tuition for every class goes up 5% from what that class was the previous year.

D3 in 2014 --increase 5%--> D3 in 2015 --increase 5%--> D3 in 2016... etc.

Many schools have the same tuition all 4 years while some vary. Fee's and equipment costs will probably vary and depend on the schools.

Hope that helps.

Here are some school's reported costs:
