Hello everyone!! Before I start I just want to thank everyone in advance for their opinions. I am a sophomore applying to Pharmacy schools for the Fall 2007 cycle. However, I went to high school in Africa (Zambia to be precise🙂 ) and have only been in America for 3 yrs now. Thus, I honestly haven't gotten round to getting settled and really have no volunteer work or anything under 'leadership' qualities to put down on my application. I am starting to volunteer at a private pharmacy next week but feel that it is too late for the current apllication cycle. I will also be taking the PCAT in October 😳 and really don't get a chance to study. Because of my visas I am not allowed to work, but I have been helping the family business out (alot like 50 hrs a week). To add to all that, I will be applyng to pharmacy schools as an international student 🙁 ....... And finally my question....What chances do you guys reckon I have of getting into a Pharmacy school for next year. Here are my grades:

Computer Concepts A$
English Composition I B$
College Algebra A$
Intro. to General Psychology A$
Precalculus A
Personal and Community Health A
American Government B
World Religions A
United States History I A
Calculus I A
Choices For Life A
Principles of Chemistry I A
Principles of Chemistry I(Lab) A
Principles of Biology I A
Principles of Biology I (Lab) A
Fund. Organic Chemistry I A
Organic Chemistry I (Lab) A
Introductory Physics I A
Introductory Physics I Lab A
Principles of Biology II A
Principles of Biology II (Lab) A
Fund. Organic Chemistry II A
Organic Chemistry II (Lab) A

TRANSCRIPT TOTALS (UNDERGRAD-SEMESTER) -Top-
Attempt Hours Passed Hours Earned Hours GPA Hours Quality Points GPA
Total Institution: 58.000 58.000 58.000 58.000 226.00 3.89

Everyone says these are good grades, but I do realistically realise that they don't look at academics only. The second thing I have going for me is that I was awarded Student of The Semester in the following classes:

Gen Chem II
Physics I
Physics I (Lab)

Also back in Africa I participated in the International award and attained a bronze level badge (had to leave soon after that). Can I use that or is it too old (high school). Also if you guys could tell me where I have a better chance of getting in (based on being an International Student).

Sorry for the long post, but i feel you will need all this info to help. And once again thank you in advance for your advice. 😀

By the way this site is great and GO MIGHTY REDS!!!!!!

Sorry, but you chances are pretty low. You should look into a new profession.

Are you serious or just kidding....cause i'm serious....😱

Well, some schools, such as USN, seem to look pretty much just at your grades, so if I were you, I'd definitely apply there. I'm not sure if you can put high school stuff on your application. Maybe you should contact the schools at ask? Youre GPA is high, if you can try to do well on your PCATs I'm pretty sure youll have a chance. Also, if you work about 50 hours a week, you should put that on your application, cause it shows that the reason you arent involved in other things is bc youre busy working.

I know many international students from China, Korea, and India, since I am in a PhD program but in an area of applied mathematics. I would say USN is your best bet. There are no federal loans available at that school and they look at grades mostly.

Also, apply to Nova, in Southeast Florida, as well. There are tons of people from Latin America at that school. In fact one of their campuses is even in Puerto Rico! So you should try there as well.

Also, Palm Beach Atlantic has a few students from Africa as well.

Try to apply to places where there is a more diverse group of students.

And of course, you could finish a biochemistry degree with good grades and apply to a PhD program in pharmaceutics. There are jobs in the pharm industry that pay as much as a pharmacist.

Thanx u guys......n e body else with an idea/opinion.....

corrrect me if I'm wrong, But isn't Student of the Month or Semester or whatever you call it "a High School" achievement? Do they award that in college or at a university??

No....they award them in college...(atleast at my college they do)....

I think you have a solid background. If you don't make it for this round, you'll be well prepared for the next admissions cycle.

cheerz all.....ur support is appreciated......will be applyin to as many skools as I can fit in......prolly like 14-18.......i'd rather not waste a year.......however, do you think other pharm skools will look at this in a negative way....... better safe than sorry.....thanx

GO LIVERPOOL!!!!😀
