I can never get this straight...
low density lipoproteins have a lesser amount of... lipids or proteins?
high density lipoproteins have a higher amount of... lipids of proteins?

Can someone help come up with a way to remember?

The higher you go in density, the greater the percentage of proteins (opposite w/ lipids). VLDL have the lowest percentage density of proteins and highest lipids and HDL is the opposite.

Here is a good summary of the details: http://www.scientificpsychic.com/health/lipoproteins-LDL-HDL.html.

For the MCAT just remember that as density goes up so does protein composition (and lipids are the opposite).

ever heard of people going on a strict diet/exercise regimen to find that they gain weight and their friends assuage them by saying muscle weighs heavier than fat, so they need not worry? keeping that analogy in mind, I never mistake that from equally sized HDLs (the buffer one) and LDLs (the fatter one) the HDLs will be heavier
