  1. Pre-Medical
I'm 26 years old and will be finishing my bachelors in a year and a half. I started out after my first semester at 1.29 GPA now I'm at a 3.0GPA.

My question is my bachelors degree is in a non-science major should I complete my bachelors then do a DIY post bacc or an SMP.

My other question is I did bio 101 about four years ago and by the time I finish my bachelors should I retake bio 101 or just continue with the remainder of my premedical requisites.

Since you're non-science with a low GPA, I'd look at an organized post-bacc. You would need all the pre-reqs minus the gen. ed. courses (bio, chem), and having a linkage may help. 3.0 is pretty low overall for applying, but its happened, especially with an upward trend coming from a 1.29, however - that upward trend isn't with science courses (at least not science heavy) if you're a non-science major. Just my .02.

you need a formal postbac or SMP. if you've taken your prereqs already, it doesn't matter which you do although the grade replacement for AACOMAS will help significantly if most of your bad grades are in the sciences. I'd personally recommend this postbac and retake route, especially if you mean this quarter/semester you're at a 3.0. if your cumulative is a 3.0 it'd work in your favor.

SMPs won't have the luxury of grade replacement but they serve as auditions for med school, and especially ones with linkages will help. my concern is that SMPs may not find you competitive.

IF you received a B or better in the Bio 101 course, do not retake.
Upward GPA trends are always good. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I guess I just wanted to know if having a pre-req 10yrs old won't be a red flag.

Another question is should I wait until after I am finished with BA then do SMP/Post-bacc or should I work the pre-reqs while getting my BA. My school is a private liberal arts school they don't have all the requirements only bio 2 which doesn't have a lab component.

Thanks
