Help! Im in the process of applying to osteopathic schools, but Im not sure of my chances. I have a 3.4 overall and a 21 on the first MCAT. I have good letters and experience, and lots of unique extracurriculars, as well as a focus on rural health. Will I get accepted? 😕

Apply to some of the newer schools early and should have a decent shot! Good Luck

I am kinda in the same boat, are you marking REAPPLY? Just wondering if you are...

Definitely try to apply early, and take advantages of early decision programs some schools offer.

Hey!, I am in the same boat as you are. I have a Sci. GPA of 3.40, overall GPA of 3.43 and MCAT of 20 Q. I submitted my application on May 15th and was verified and sent to the schools on June 6th. Obviously, I can't cancel because it has been processed so I have decided to go through the application cycle and see what happens. Are you doing the same? Do you have any plans about taking it in August? I'm still contemplating if I should take it in August or wait and take it next April.

my advice, apply to lecom-b and pcom-georgia campus... the newer campuses seem to be more lenient... you have nothing to lose but money, so i say go for it! good luck!

You need to retake the MCAT in August. There is plenty of time to prepare and retake it while still applying this year. These MCAT scores are just not competitive at all; they are way below average even. The cut-off number for retaking the MCAT I chose for myself when I took the MCAT with a similar mediocre GPA to yours was 28. These are the hoops we must jump through. You are in a great spot because you took the April MCAT and now you can take it again while still applying this year, don’t waste that opportunity. Good luck

Nate, straight up..you seem to give the honest brutal truth...

BCPM 3.7 ish
overal 3.75

disadvantage (socio-economically)

5yrs clinical experince + volunteer

maintained 4.0 for most of my undergrad education per semester (accumulative lower d/t freshman year)

MCAT

PS 7
VR 7
BS 8

Guess I should retake it?

Raven you have a very strong application with that GPA, life story, and research experience. Your MCAT is very low as you know and I would suggest retaking it not only to put yourself in a better position for getting into med school but also so you get the chance that you deserve of picking which school you attend and perhaps even walking away with a nice grant, maybe even a free ride. Don't sell yourself short over one test, you can retake it in August and position yourself for a smooth ride next year rather than headaches and possible heartbreak. Good luck

Thanks Nate. Oh--my clincal experience isnt in research--it is with direct patient care. Just FYI.
