hey guys, so this is my first post. And im really confused about something. So I submitted my AMCAS and AACOMAS applications, but I did HORRIBLE on my mcat, and I am retaking on July 18th. Since my first MCAT score is so bad, would I be automatically rejected pre-secondary, or would they see that I am retaking mcats, since it is indicated on my application, and put me on hold? Or do I specially have to ask each school to put me on hold for a secondary till my second scores are in? Thanks so much in advance guys!

how bad is your mcat? If it is that bad, i would consider waiting 3 weeks to submit your app. Still send the transcripts, etc now. Submit your app before you get your new mcat scores. When your new scores come in august, make sure everything else is complete, and you have already been verified. So all aacomas has to do is send a new file to the schools. This way you will be complete in august.

it was pretty bad, a 22. But the thing is I already submitted both applications. I figured that since I indicated i was taking mcats again, they would just wait for the scores instead of rejected me? But then i heard that unless you specifcally call and tell them, they reject you presecondary, even if u are registered to re-take??

I can't speak for any of the MD schools but the DO schools will not just reject you pre-secondary. Of course I'm basing this on the schools I applied to and the Touros will kind of reject you but will look at your app again if you send them new scores. If you applied to OSU, last I knew they required at least a 7 in each section.

I have heard some schools reject you pre secondary, even if they see you are retaking it, but that is usually for people who are taking the jan mcat. Most of the of time a school will put you on hold, but i would be afraid of human error (not noticing if you are retaking etc.) and I would call the schools you applied to and ask them to put your file on hold, explain to them you are taking the mcat again. Do this a couple days after you are completely verified and aacomas has sent your file. If you are really anal, (like i am 😛) i would call them again after aacomas send my file again, and ask them if you can be taken of hold, or check if they took you off hold. Better safe than sorry

Hope this helps

I agree with this advice. If you want to take a more passive approach, but along the same idea, don't do anything, and then if your score is better, call up any school that rejected you pre-secondary to see if your higher score changes things.

The only problem with the passive approach is if a school rejects you, it very difficult for them to "overturn their decision". If they did so, its like admitting they made a mistake on you, and they are obsessed with stats, which in some ways they are. That is just my opinion.

You probably wont get rejected because, its not like your new mcat is late or anything. The only thing i would be worried about is if they view you with your old mcat, and think you are not competitive and put you on the bottom of the pile. Thats why i would call and ask to be put on hold, but thats just my opinion.

I think it's all similar to every schools admission process.

They will hold your secondary app until the new score comes in... that's given that you were considered for secondary.

If you think you won't be considered for secondary, hold your primary until your new score comes in.

Good luck.
