So, I have an acceptance at LECOM. YAY! So, 5 weeks ago I started a new job in a community health clinic. Today, they fired me for some really stupid reasons (even per my husband's HR person, like they cited that my face flushes when I'm frustrated). I put the job on my AACOMAS application. I am now considering removing it... I DON'T want to jeopardize my acceptance, so I am in a conundrum, I don't know if I should leave it up or take it off... Thoughts? I need help on this one...

Wait, are you still applying, or are you going to attend LECOM-E? If so, it isn't a problem. You were employed when you put it on your app, and you aren't employed there now due to unforseen circumstances. LECOM will not know that you are no longer at that job. You are done applying now. It should not matter. There is no need to change your AACOMAS at all.

Yes, I sent in my deposit. Unless something changes dramatically, I assume it's the only acceptance I'll have for the year...

My concern is that what if Erie calls them or something and they say I was terminated/not rehire-able, and Erie withdraws their acceptance?

Call anonymously and find out.

Is there any way to smooth things over with the clinic, maybe even get your job back? Unless you were a thief or violent I would think it isn't a deal breaker.

If it comes up with LECOM don't make excuses just be honest and tell them what you are doing to move forward. Honestly, if they look at the forums much I think they could figure out from your unique profile who you are anyway.

Considering it is my only clinical experience, it could. That's why I am concerned.

No, not violent, but the reasons sited reach from fabricated to exaggerated.... I liked working there, but the manager (who isn't the person who hired me, she's out on FMLA) didn't like me... within two weeks she made me re-interview for my position, and I knew at that point she didn't like me... She told me at that point she didn't think I was 'meshing' with the employees... not sure what to do now... don't know if I should look for another clinical job, or just go work at a nearby retail store for 6mos...

You're in. You didn't lie to get in. You haven't committed any crimes since the acceptance, or failed a bunch of classes. This isn't going to have any effect on your acceptance.

Do whatever's going to be the best combination of making money and being enjoyable for the next 6 months of work.

You're acceptance letter will outline everything that needs to be follow in order to keep your acceptance. I guarantee your acceptance will not be rescinded because you've lost your job that was your only clinical experience. Clinical experience is not a requirement for entry into medical school.

You should be fine.. Enjoy your time off before school. I'll be quitting my job soon and am not worried about it at all.

To reiterate: 1.) You are not at risk of having your acceptance rescinded, so you can relax. Period. 2.) They will not call your job.

Just to reiterate what everyone else said, everything will be okay and you will be fine. Congrats on your acceptance!

I highly doubt they have the time or resources to call to see if you still have your job, if they were going to do that I would think that would happen before you were given notice that you were accepted, no one is going to check up after the fact. I think the only thing they care about is that you finish pre-reqs

Those have been done for about 15 years... I'm all set, have all the LORs, courses, etc checked off... I could send my transcripts now, it wouldn't be any different... 🙂

So you've wanted to be a doctor for "years" doing a lengthy post bacc and the only clinical experience you have is 5 weeks worth after an acceptance this year? This is a bit odd. I hope you know what you're getting into for your own sake, and go get some clinical experience before you start medical school and are so deep in debt that you can't change your mind.

Regardless, good luck, I hope things at LECOM work out for the best and you find some enjoyable employment to pay the bills until classes start.

They don't count ANY of my volunteer activity as clinical. I LOVED my job, the people in charge didn't love me. I worked in biotech for 12 years, I've wanted to be a physician all my life. You can judge me or worry or whatever, I have an acceptance, I know what I want... and for the record, the letters that you see in my handle aren't my actual initials, so the school isn't going to know who I am... Thanks though

They don't count phlebotomy as clinical? That sucks I was planning on doing this for a year after I graduated. And he didn't mean the school would know who you are from your initials he's talking about you MD apps where you list your undergrad school, gpa, experiences, etc. Those are unique enough (especially when you list your specific school) that if they REALLY wanted to know they could be pretty sure that is you. I mean how many people at St. Cloud University are accepted at LECOM with those exact same statistics? ha

Exactly.

Side note, how the heck is phlebotomy not clinical? You are working with patients in a medically related setting. Bizarre. EMT is clinical too (if you're out in the field, not the class). SBB2016 what did they consider to be "clinical" experience?

When you volunteer as an EMT, and aren't paid, it doesn't count. So, 3600 hours of EMT work in the NSP doesn't count as clinical, it only counts as volunteer. My two years as a phleb many years ago doesn't count because it was 15 years ago, and the current phleb work is now over.

Who told you that doesn't count as clinical experience? That's f***ing absurd.

THEY told me it doesn't count... As in the schools, several, including phys assistant schools before the DO/MD schools. It doesn't matter that I can put on a Hare traction splint in the dark, @-20, with 30mph winds and blowing snow, or that I can back board a person safely in the same environment. It isn't clinical experience because I didn't bring them to the hospital, it doesn't count... Dead serious...

Oh, and same for the phleb experience... it counts, minimally at best, because it was so long ago... I was told regarding that to put it in the application, but that it really wouldn't be a huge help because 15 years ago is too long ago, and that for me to really have 'current clinical' exposure, I needed a new job doing hospital work... It all doesn't really matter because I did get 4 interviews pretty quickly and 1 acceptance, but.... that's what I'm told...

LECOM is a business. They will not call your job and boot you out of the school for that. You are worrying for nothing. Plus your job cannot legally say anything about you should anyone call. All they can say is they verify your employment from this date to this date. Stop worrying and revel in your acceptance.

Anyway, back on topic:

You're fine.

hehe Thanks

Trying to.... 🙂

Ok, so this still begs the question... What to do with my application. Put in the dates and show I only worked for 6 weeks? Or remove it and pretend it didn't happen?

Isn't your application already complete? or are you still filling out secondaries?

I didn't think you could change your application after you already had it verified

That is incorrect, at least with AACOMAS. If you update it, the schools are sent an updated application, so you can change some things all year... I think some things are set, but work history is not
