When submitting MCAT scores, can you choose to only send in a certain score?? On practice tests I was getting 36-39's, but choked on a 28 when I actually took the thing. 7P 10V and 11B. I'm thinking about taking it again on the 18th, just for that pesky physical sciences score. If I decide to retake, is there any way that I can only report that score, or do I have to give them all three? I think I'd be OK with my current verbal and bio scores, so it would be nice to only have to focus on the low physical score.

I'm pretty sure you have to report all three. Some schools (albeit very few) may look at the highest score in each section if you have taken the MCAT more than once. But you will have to ask the school specifically.

PS: you quote is great. In Coach Carter, there is a 5 minute speech a former basketball player references that from Mandela.

Best of luck on your MCAT retake

You can but this is what the aamc says regarding sending selected scores:

Send selected scores to medical schools ...

This option appears if you have at least two sets of MCAT scores.

This option is exactly the same as the "Send all my scores" option, but allows you to exclude selected scores from the report. You cannot exclude scores from April 2003 and later. Please note, that the score reports that goes to the recipients includes the test date (but not the scores or the test conditions) for each MCAT you excluded. Some schools and programs do not accept score reports that exclude scores. To send your scores to these programs, termed Include-All-Scores Institutions, you must use the "Send all my scores" option instead.

So, although you will exclude your score, you will not exclude the fact that you took the test on that day, or were at least present throughout the duration of the exam. Take that at what you will but it is my personal opinion that excluding scores is dishonest when all schools expect that you send them all of your scores.

According to your quote from the AAMC, you can not exclude scores. Med schools will definitely see all scores from tests you took after 4/2003. If it were possible to just hide the fact that you took the exam and got a particular score, I am sure many of us would have taken the MCAT till we scored a 40+.

option 1: don't take it again, since im sure they will be super impressed that you were scoring 39s on practice tests anyway.

option 2: retake the full test. before you do, try to mimic the actual test environment while studying. that is, don't just take the PS section, then watch some tv and eat a croissant, delving into is WS an hour later. you choked because you didn't prep properly.

option 3: sign up for the next available mcat and only take the PS section.*

*option 3 doesn't work because a 15P 0V 0B is still scoring a 15 on the MCAT.

actually, you automatically get 1s on any section left blank.. he'll get a 17.. not so bad 😉

Yes, that's exactly what I was doing. It never occurred to me to practice under test-taking conditions, what a novel idea! I just love me a good croissant and I guess the temptation was just too much for me.

How did you do in verbal? Not too great I'd guess - it was my PS score that I was worried about, everything else was fine. But thanks anyway for such great and useful advice.
