Hi, I know most people will immediately direct me to some HES-specific thread but hopefully a few will take the time to answer this question as it is kind of walked around in the other threads.

What type of acceptance is there from HES to medical/dental schools? Does anyone have any personal examples or experience?

I am worried that b/c it is an extension school it is not as highly looked upon as a Tufts or Bryn Mawr or Columbia etc.

Thanks!

Usually is around 85-90% acceptance for Harvard. You need a 3.0 in their program, and you sometimes have to get a 30 on the MCAT. The requirements are listed on their website.

If I remember correctly, it was stated at this year's info session that approx 85% of students who are sponsored by the Health Careers program are accepted to med school.

It is my impression that grades, MCAT score, ec, and lors have the strongest bearing on med-school acceptance rate. Ethnicity and age plays a role as well. If you have a 4.0 and a 35 on the MCAT, I wouldn't think that it matters if you went to Bryn Mawr or Harvard Extension school.

I'm a current student in the program and I can say that the courses so far seem to prepare one very well for what I expect med school to be like. I find the classes challenging and work intensive and you really have to work for the A. And since you are not hand held like you would be in other programs, you need to be self-motivated too.

I have heard several success stories from those who have finished the program (success being accepted to top med schools.) This is not a competitive program to be accepted to, but it is a good challenge to finish it.
