Jet you bastard you never dropped some hotels on me for ASA. I'll be needing wheelchair access because I'm picking up a motorized Steven Hawkings chair for the convention. Tired of walking.

Is the convention at the Ernest Morial Convention Center (on the Mississippi River, former site of the 1984 World's Fair) or at one of the larger hotels? I ask because I was born and raised in New Orleans.

Let me know where the convention is hosted and I'll be happy to suggest a couple of close hotels.

Bear in mind: if it's at the Morial Convention Center, all the hotels within a 1-2 block walking distance are too far from the touristy parts of the French Quarter. The 300-600 blocks of Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, finer restaurants, etc, are at least a mile from the hotels surrounding the Morial Convention Center. Plus, you do NOT want to be walking through some of the peripheral blocks of the French Quarter by yourself after dark.

So, do you want to stay in the Quarter and take a taxi to the convention, or stay near the convention and taxi everywhere else?

JPP: did you know they reinstalled the Canal Street streetcar, which had been removed in 1964? Plus, now they have another streetcar line, which goes along the riverfront from the Convention Center to Esplanade Blvd? Neither were there when you were at Tulane.

Geez, come to think of it, Trin, I have seen the Canal streetcar. Very interesting...although I don't think I'd ride on it, especially at nite, without a 45 Glock.

Wasnt aware of the other line...

It's at the convention center. It's a pretty big show if you've never been. A lot of the committee meetings are held at the two headquarters hotels.

One URL with info on numerous hotels in the immediate area of the convention center.

Plus the Riverfront Hilton is only two long blocks away and offers self-parking in the connected garage (very rare for a downtown New Orleans hotel). Fantastic views. It's also directly across the street from Harrah's casino.

Where ya'll need to come play at the 2-5 no-limit hold'em table...taking tourists $ who think they're Doyle Brunson is very much fun....
I'm easy to spot...I've got the blue mirrored Oakleys on...come on in!!!! 😀

Yeah, I dropped the ball getting back to Venty and a nice med student with a list...sorry guys...glad Trinity has my back...

Theres a Hampton Inn a couple blocks from the convention center which is really nice, at a price dramatically less than The W, Westin, Hilton, etc.

The ASA-RC has negotiated reduced rates for residents at the Ramada in New Orleans (seems pretty close from the website), $75/night, which after all the fees and such, comes out to about $87/night.

Are there places cheaper?

The ASA-RC did y'all a great big favor with those rates at Ramada.

Twenty years ago I worked front desk at a snooty New Orleans hotel. The rates were $150/night during the brunt of the summer heat, and $200 when the weather cooled and big conventions were booked.

One thing to keep in mind: unless you're staying in a hotel immediately across the street from the convention center (Exposition Blvd) I recommend against walking back to your hotel by yourself after dark.

The convention center is on the Mississippi River. Walking away from the river, and once you pass the hotels right across the street, you enter the recently-gentrified former Warehouse district. Beyond that is the Central Business District, which is only full of people Mon-Fri during business hours. Outside of those hours you'll only see winos or worse. Some of the newest New Orleans hotels are actually converted business buildings in the CBD.

My bad: the 1884 World's Fair was on Exposition Blvd, at what is now Audubon Park.

The 1984 World's Fair was held on the riverfront on Convention Center Blvd.

how much is that bike gonna set you back? I know nothing about BMW bikes, but I'll bet its a lot more than 10k, huh?

Have you ridden a Hayabusa or a suzuki 1000R? Both around 10k and awesome performance. Guess I'm Suzuki biased...have ridden a Ninja (900)...think the suzukis smoke the kawasakis.....do you like your Honda? How does it handle?

I've never rode (ridden?) a Honda superbike. How would you rate them?

I agree with the negative Buell posts. Harley's attempt to compete with the ricers....no comparison.

The K1200s will be around 12,000 😱

I've ridden the CBR952.....oh my god...hold on for dear life!!! but that is a different class of bike....too sporty for me....I'm not in my 20's anymore.

The Jap bikes are good performers, but just not quite as "gentlemenly" as the BMW, and I like the shaft drive...no worries about maintenance.

I have not ridden the hayabusa.....but it doesn't have luggage..which I want.

I tried the GSXR...My brother has one....I had to go see a chiropracter the next day. 😀
