I've heard that Asians need over low-30's MCAT scores to be competitive in the
admissions process. Is this true? If so, isn't it highly unethical to hold one creed up to an entirely different standard?

While it is true Asians are not considered an under-represented minority, Asians are not
required to get higher scores than anyone else.
That would be VERY wrong and someone would get sued really fast and really bad.

Where did you hear such a thing?

There are many schools where you do have to get in the 30s to get in no matter what
race you are.

This does happen, unfortunately. Not at every school, but at some point, the California schools broke down the MCAT scores and ethnicity of the students they accepted. It came out such that the Asians and Caucasians that were accepted had higher MCAT scores. Now that affirmative action has been done away with in California, this may change -- I haven't seen any new data regarding this. In any case, medical schools accept who they feel will be successful as a physician -- they look at much more than just MCAT scores. So in the end, just try to make as strong an application for yourself as you can.

Also how perfect is it that the person who bumped this thread's user name is mmm_cats and the the next person to reply has a picture of George Bush eating a cat??

The chance of it being a coincidence is inversely proportional to the prevalence of cat related material on the forum.

I'll never understand SDN's fascination with cats. They are literally the most evil creature on this planet. I've never met a cat that didn't try to attack me when I try to pet it. Maybe there's something wrong with me and not them...

Cats have psychic abilities so there must be something wrong with you

While it seems odd, it seems that the thread was posted as an informational source. As in, Jim got the question from elsewhere and posted it here. He then answered the question for curious applicants to see.

Why would he use that format? Why would he post from two separate accounts ?

Cats are very perceptive creatures. Unlike dogs, which are natural sycophants (if dogs could talk, all they'd say is "you are the most wonderful person in the history of the universe!"), you have to earn the love of a cat!
