I just took the DAT last week, and ended up with decent scores everywhere but the PAT. My overall AA was 18. My GPA from Colorado State is a 3.9, but I am wondering whether or not to retake that DAT. Will I have a chance at the University of CO?

I don't know how it is in Colorado or how competitive is it there, but I have about the same GPA and my in-state school told me that an 18 would be competitive w/ my GPA and a 19 would be very competitive. Some schools give equal weights for each, and if you have a good GPA and an average DAT you'll be okay....unless Colorado puts more emphasis on the DAT. Just call the school and ask them. They will tell you I'm sure. Good luck.

18 on DAT is pretty low. Of course I don't know what is considered acceptable at U of CO but if you want to be admitted to a wide range of school, re-taking the DATs isn't unthinkable.

what exactly did you get on your PAT?
3.9 and 18 aa are both good. no need to retake the DAT unless your pat was below 15.

Don't worry, an 18 on the DAT isn't "pretty low." A simple look at the averages at most dental schools for accepted DATs will tell you this. An 18 is a fairly strong score, and when combined with other strong stats (GPA, extracurriculars, passion for dentistry), you should be fine. I got an 18 without studying nearly as much as I would have liked, combined with just having 2 years of college behind me and not taking many bio classes, but everything else is pretty strong. Remember, the "SDN DAT average" is probably WAY higher than the national average. Some of the people on here will make you sick with their stats 😛
