  5. State school in MI, class of '24 (exercise science)
  6. Clinical experience: ~800 hours (PT tech and ortho scribe)
  7. Research: ~50 hours (no pub) (will be doing research in lab over summer/fall)
  8. Shadowing: ~50 hours (5 specialties)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: ~150 hours
  10. Other extracurricular activities: 2 semester of anatomy TA, 2 years Pre-PT E-board, ~3000 hours working in a restaurant

  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important: Strong LORs (quite confident in these) and strong PS/2ndary writing
I am acutely aware that my ECs are holding my app back, but I am confident that medicine is my calling and would like to get in this cycle. I am looking for advice/modification for my school list: (copied from MSAR)

Thank you!

What is the nature of your 150 hours of non-clinical community service? How many credit hours are included in your science GPA? What advice have you gotten from your prehealth advisors at your school?
Food pantry in low income area, where I help with translating for Spanish-speakers, among various other things.
58 credits
None

While 150 hours should be sufficient for most schools, if you intend to go for brand-name programs, you need to keep building hours on your food pantry work. Most desirable applicants in that pool should have at least 250 hours to remain viable; most will have much more.

Where you might want to get confirmation from a prehealth advisor: Exercise science applicants need to have solid biomedical science coursework (which your sGPA suggests but your transcript and syllabus review will confirm). You also need to have clinical experience that has more variety away from PT, rehab/PMR, or ortho. I don't know if your other shadowing can offset the 800 hours of your PTA/ortho experience, especially for top brand schools you are angling for. That said, major shouldn't matter, but one would wonder why you're not interested in athletic training or PT (the latter I would presume you have an answer) and what experiences away from PT are you interested in.
