High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine Class of 2029 Interview/Acceptance Thread

@RDH-1993 There is a GroupMe you can join. Search Workman Dental School and it will come up.

And any acceptances right now are solely people getting off the waitlist to start August 5th of this year.

No acceptances for 2025 will go out until mid-August.
Thank you, I know they wont be giving decisions for the next cohort until mid August. They informed us of that last week at the interview and it is on their website. I was just curious as to if there was a different forum that Odnessd1 was a part of since I am a part of two HPU WSDM GroupMe pages and regularly check this SDN forum and I did not see the information that someone was recently accepted.

Hi! Just completed interview Last week. They have an interview date for Sometime in August maybe the 23rd and September 27th. (2 sessions each day total of 24slots per session) They review applications again after the interview session exactly a week after. And Decision sent by 60days of that date. So the class entering 2025 won’t start receiving notification until the month August! Hope that helps.
it says decision pending for literally everyone?

Cannot seem to find the group me. I interviewed in the first interview back in May. I am assuming around Aug 17 (mid august) they will send out first admissions for 2029. Been checking emails every day... for two months! Ha.

IS the iterview last year where they interview around 500 people?
I was told it was a smaller group this year, I would assume this means 350-400 people. Last year I was told by someone Wait listed there were around 1500-1600 applicants 500 interview. This year I would assume more, and less interviews given.

Is High Point legit? Like what other schools did you apply to? I applied to USC and NYU, and 10 more. Is dentistry becoming like pharmacy where its getting easier somone else said in 2022 SDN>

I don’t think so. I know people with stellar stats applying to schools for the 3rd cycle in a row this year

Since they ahve built 11 new dental schools and no pharmacy schools and many have mentioned dentistry is becoming like pharmacy like 3 people on reddit and SDN. Why everyone want to dental and Medical in particular because it makes the MOST money?

Hey, did you interview July 19th? If so, what time? I was in the 8am group.

I applied June 1st as EC, took my Casper June 11th and received an interview June 25th. Had my interview July19th (second round of interviews), and we should know something by mid to late August. I want to say that their next interviews are September.

I applied in May and took Casper in May 16. How come I didn't get an interview and it says still Decison Pending on mine. Is it the same for everyone?

Yes, Decision pending status on Application Tracker and Invite still sent via email. Tracker will disappear when Admission decision is made after interview or if they decide to not move forward with an interview offer. An email will also be sent to you.
Hi Mine still says decison Pending. is that normal ? and I did casper like back in May.

Not everyone is given an interview, and not everyone is given one all at once. Patience, the cycle is still very young.

I got a high Casper and Still? What casper quartile did you get? I am literllay like 40 years old and still not getting an interview or maybe
perhaps you could fill out a WAMC template...

I scored the top quartile. However I am already in dental school, so speaking purely from experience when I applied: don't compare yourself to others. Focus on you and your application. If you scored well and other aspects of your app are good, you stand a chance. Just need to be patient.

Can you send me info on this group? I cannot find it.

Yep, sadly. But just gotta wait and pray and hope.
I just don’t understand why, i applied may 1st as a EC, took my casper and was received on May 31st, scored 4th quartile, have thousands of dental assistant and shadowing hours, 3.9 GPA in biology, and i still have decision pending and some people who applied heard back beofre me. I am so confused… Should I contact them or is that wrong?

You need to be patient. Not everyone is going to hear back quickly. Things take time. Your stats are well above their averages, they’re probably yield protecting you for the time being unless you gave them very good reasons for wanting to attend their school instead of another more established program as you have the gpa to be competitive for one.

Don't contact! they are very transparent regarding the selection process. Have you referred to the " Admissions Model Overview" on the site? it informs you of how candidates are selected. Its still very early on in the process and EC window closes today! Stay Patient and have faith 🙂

Yes its normal. Mine said Decision pending for 3 weeks before they sent an Interview invite. (Still Says Decision Pending) But in your case right now it means they have reviewed you application and the Decision pending will either be For an Interview or Re-Apply Next cycle. Hope that helps

But they applied early commitment so why would they safeguard it

its random, same is for others right now. My GPA is 3.74 and still says decision pending. They prob looking for people that are disadvantaged at this point. We aren't /:

Don't think they're looking for Disadvantaged Applicants, but applicants that have what they are looking for as a school. I know a 3.9 person that interviewed as well as a 3.6... It all depends on what else you're bringing to the party not just GPA. that's why its called a "Holistic Review." What would you say applying to another school With a median GPA OF 3.6 and still not get invited?

Honestly, I am really old for school and still not getting an interview so far. Don't know what else to do? Its very frustrating.

1- the cycle is not even 2 months old, you are going to have to trust the process
B- if you fill out a WAMC template, we could advise you on your prospects...

I heard NYU takes anyone that applied as Early in the cycle. Someone got in with a 3.1 GPA this year.

is law, pharmacy and optometry easier to get in or they are harder to get into?

They’re all easier to get into. Only the top like 10-15 law schools are pretty competitive. But pharmacy accepts anyone lately and optometry isn’t as competitive as dental.

If you want to be a lawyer you can get into A law school, but you need to be a decent applicant to get into a good law school. I’d argue dentistry is still more competitive than those 3 as a whole.

Also just because someone got in with a 3.1 gpa doesn’t always tell the full story. They could have had a really bad freshmen year with failing grades and finished with a 4.0 their junior and senior year. Or did a competitive masters and scored well. Their masters gpa isn’t published for data. Or they did exceptionally well on the dat. Try to not take things at face value, there’s far more that goes into admissions than you might think.

Focus on yourself and your app, and don’t compare yourself to others. Good habit to get into now because comparing yourself to classmates in dental school will drive you clinically insane.

But I heard NYU is same as Carribean Medical schools, people fail MCAT Carribean still accepts them . Several Counselors told me that NYU is like a carribean Dental School where people don't get in, they go there as last resort. Tell me if I am Wrong, since I know I am not.

NYUs average DAT score is still higher than the average MCAT score percentile wise at those schools. And assuming you graduate from NYU you’ll have better opportunities than graduating from a carribean medical school where you’ll be stuck in primary care. Sure there’s some similarities but dentistry itself is different than medicine. You’re comparing apples to oranges.

Keep in mind too that you’re applying to a school with not even full accreditation, gov loans, and hasn’t even graduated a class yet…at least NYU can say it has all 3. You’re cherry picking information, NYU is still a good school, just not a great financial choice if you’re paying it in full.

I think they said it would be 300 this year. Meaning that if you get an interview, you have a 20% chance of being accepted

Honestly, I get in anywhere else is better than HPU. HPU isn't good, there are good schools out there.
