Interviewing High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine Class of 2029 Interview/Acceptance Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No pre requisites required? What exactly does that mean? Can someone apply straight from high school?
Not exactly true. I’ve been looking at the stats. They say no prerequisites required, BUT I doubt you get accepted if you don’t have the major core science classes. 67% accepted have undergrad degree and 32% masters

Hey guys, hopefully everyone’s doing well. Does anyone know how workman calculates gpa? Is it anything like aadsas and how they average your retakes, or is it simple your undergrad gpa? Sorry for the confusing question. Good luck to everyone this cycle!

With the program being young, there isn’t any data on the subject at the time.

My application status still says "submitted" even though I was EC and my casper/duet scores were received. Wouldn't it at least say decision pending? Anyone else?

It depends when you applied, the last day was only a few weeks ago

Applied 27th. I saw someone on here got an invite already and they weren't EC. Also next round of interviews are August 23rd apparently. I'm nervous bc it seems like they haven't even considered me amongst the big pool of applicants. I thought I had a pretty decent application.

I applied 31st for EC, and still my status is received application as well.

The end of July was only about 3 weeks ago. This is not long in the application process at all! The application has also been open since May. They are probably busy with volume of applicants and the time they put in to evaluate, on top of a new school year. Be patient, and while you wait, do something you think may benefit you, like volunteering, or shadowing dentists. You can only make yourself better! Good luck!

Sorry I meant end of JUNE*** Even worse lol

Waiting stinks..but try to stay patient. As I said..try to do things you think may help yourself grow whether as a person or student, etc.. I personally am always trying to do something even in the waiting process. For example, I volunteer my time at a dental clinic as well as a food pantry! Everything helps, even if it’s something you’ve done recently and didn’t get a chance to put it on your application yet (could be a talking point for a question in an interview!!)

As of right now no one has heard or received a rejection/apply next year letter yet correct?

I’m so sad :( I got an interview and waitlisted last time and improved my application and Casper and now this at least I tried this time

Keep your head up, think positive, and keep pushing forward. It’s still very early in the application process. Everyone is feeling some sort of anxiety during these times. All we can do is pray and hope for the best.

Where did you find the stats you attached? The only stats I've been able to find were the application pool stats, not the actual admitted class!

I’m surprised. A lot of the people in my interview session were interviewed last year too. You haven’t gotten an interview? When did you apply and interview last year?

Is there a section on the application for recommendation letters?
Nope. They specifically request that you don't send recommendation letters. Here's what their FAQ page says:

"The HPU WSDM does NOT include an opportunity to submit letters of recommendation as they were determined to have minimal impact on application decisions in previous cycles."

I honestly am curious how many of the applicants who received admissions last cycle submitted their DAT scores. Any thoughts on this?

Once you submit your application, how long does it take them to update your status to "received your casper results" status? I took my Casper a while back and my scores were distributed a few weeks ago, but I did not submit my application till recently.

I think their website says a couple of weeks

I think it varies largely. I applied 6/11 (not EC) and took Casper/Duet the same day. They reviewed my application and marked it as if the scores had been received two days later, and within a week it said "Decision Pending." My Casper scores didn't actually get distributed until 8/25. My application still says Decision Pending. 🤷‍♀️ I assume there must be a fairly steep increase in applications submitted each day as the cycle progresses, especially given the EC deadline on 7/31. Plus, they just started their first semester and they're sending out initial admissions offers for those who interviewed before August. Waiting is the worst, but we'll hear something eventually!

how did you know your scores were distributed officially if it had already said decision pending before that? My status is still on "submitted" for 4 weeks now... :/ Casper was done over a month ago

Mine is the same, without an update for my Casper.

Mines is still decision pending and Casper scores where well received. I’m just curious to know will they let you know if you won’t be getting an interviewed? I can imagine they are behind as the first cohort started three weeks ago. Patience is the key here!! Good luck everyone this cycle 💕 we will get into dental school

I checked my Casper account, and it didn't update to "scores distributed" until about two weeks after I took it. My guess is that they marked it as if they'd already received the scores before they had so they could go ahead and review my application before the onslaught 😂 Idk.

I do have a minor fear (or even a slightly illogical paranoia) that they forgot about my application since it's been so long. But it's probably just 1) they're super busy, and 2) I'm not EC, so I'm sure I'm not prioritized right now.

That's what I've been wondering as well!! Based on their website, I think we have every reason to assume they will let us know if we're not getting an interview...but I haven't heard of anyone being waitlisted or rejected yet, so that concerns me a little. 😅

Anyone else who already interviewed stressing over whether or not they will be receiving an acceptance over the next few days? I cant stop thinking about it and checking this website lol. I just had a nightmare that was a little too realistic where i did not get in 🥲
Do you know if they've sent out any admissions decisions yet?

That's kind of interesting to look at, looking at the Casper data, I'm going to assume those are z scores and they accepted people with scores as low as 2 percentile and as high as 98 percentile with the average being 67 percentile so it looks like they don't have a Casper test cut off and it's not the end of the world for you if you get a low Casper score as long as the rest of your application is good, though with the 67% quartile average, it might mean most of their accepted students have a 4th quartile Casper score and the 2 percentile score might be an outlier bringing the average down.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure in one of their info packets they say the Casper score can't hurt a candidate who is already strong, but can help a candidate they might otherwise be on the fence about.

I'll join after my interview next week. For anyone curious, I applied in the middle of June and took the Casper on June 11th, was invited to interview at the end of June and my application page still says decision pending. I also applied EC.
Were you invited June 25th? If so why didn’t you take a July interview?

From what I gather is that if your application is very strong and grades are top tier, Casper isn’t factored much
