High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine Class of 2029 Interview/Acceptance Thread

I just don’t understand why, i applied may 1st as a EC, took my casper and was received on May 31st, scored 4th quartile, have thousands of dental assistant and shadowing hours, 3.9 GPA in biology, and i still have decision pending and some people who applied heard back beofre me. I am so confused… Should I contact them or is that wrong?
its just biased/ They are biased and its random. Did you hear from other schools?

I got an interview at NYU and other schools. I don't really care abut this one anymore.

Check your ego at the door, it's starting to show. Be humble.

Admissions aren't random, they're calculated. Your application probably indicated to HPU you may have been a better candidate elsewhere. Clearly as you received other interviews. HPU most likely knew this and therefor extended interviews to other candidates they thought would be more likely to attend their school and fit their mission. There's nothing random about admissions, it's a numbers game most of the time.

Other programs require a personal statement and I did that clearly the easiest one was Pacific Northwest Dental School and even they gave me a interview along with other ones. But other ones are like hard to graduate from and required a DAT. So, I don't know what else to do I get into NYU the campus doesn't look nice compared to the new schools look nice. I wanna go to a nice school not a bad campus like NYU

Then why did you apply to NYU…

You’re making no sense about applying. First you’re wondering why you’re not getting interviews, we give you reasons. Then you’re complaining about said interviews. Make it make sense?

Bro. PNWU hasn't even started interviews yet.... They haven't even opened their application yet so why are you lying. Just be thankful and be patient.

You’ll be ok. I am a fellow applicant cycle this cycle and I know it’s easy to start to feel worried immediately, especially when you see others getting responses. Hang in there, and go to wherever accepts you. It just takes one!

Has anyone received an interview for this cycle not as early commit? I interviewed last cycle and re-applied early May, seems like almost every interview invite I've seen is for EC so far.

Bc they prioritize EC interviews

Has anyone actually been officially waitlisted for an interview? In the FAQ page, it says you'll have an indicator on your portal if you've been waitlisted, but I don't know if that's outdated info. (I applied 6/11, took Casper and Duet on 6/11 as well, and am not EC. My portal has said Decision Pending for about 6 weeks now 😅 Am I being silently waitlisted?)

there is no such thing as "silently waitlisted"
why are you making up categories when your portal says what your status is?

It was a bit of a joke. Let me be more cut-and-dry.

My question here is whether or not it is possible that the FAQ info (specifically saying there will be an indicator if you are waitlisted for an interview) is outdated. All I'm looking for is one example of someone who has received this indicator, and my question is answered.

@saltdogdmd I applied May 1st, took Casper and Duet May 3rd, and received an interview in early June. I was in the first interview group. It takes about 2-3 weeks for the school to receive your Casper from the date you took it. My portal showed "decision pending" for about 2 weeks.

I think the FAQ information is up-to-date. The later you apply, the more the spots fill up. If you have anymore questions, feel free to message me.

anything is possible
but the program is one year old, so the chance of info being "outdated" is quite low...

I see your point, but I'd argue it's the most likely time for things to change rapidly, and therefore for certain updates to slip through the cracks. You're probably right though, to be fair.

I think you’re waitlisted after an interview. Or does the FAQ specifically say you may possibly be waitlisted for an interview? Been a while since I read the FAQ

Here's the info directly from the FAQ page, under question "How are interview decisions determined and distributed?" I added bold/red font formatting to the most applicable portion, but pasted the whole quote for context.

"Data from the application review and the Casper/Duet assessment determine whether a candidate is eligible for an interview. Candidates receive one of three decisions:
  • Interview offer = candidate demonstrated readiness in their application or had higher than average Casper/Duet scores without any major concerns
  • Waitlist = several minor concerns were identified with an average Casper/Duet performance
  • Reapply next cycle = multiple concerns were identified by the team and the candidate was not considered ready yet for dental school
Candidates with an “interview offer” decision will receive an email inviting them to register for an interview date and time via the applicant portal, if spaces are available. Interviews will be available on select Fridays and Saturdays during the interview cycle with approximately one interview date per month. Sign-up for interviews occurs on a first-reserved basis. Later in the admission cycle, interview spaces are much more limited and difficult to secure. We attempt to provide approximately two months notice for applicants to schedule travel arrangements.

Candidates with a “waitlist” decision will have an indicator in their applicant portal. This indicates that a candidate may receive an interview if spaces are available–early commitment candidates will be prioritized first for opportunities. Candidates with a “reapply next cycle” decision will receive an email notification about this decision and are not eligible for an interview or admission this cycle."

@saltdogdmd It sounds like they are still evaluating your application. First acceptances go out mid-late August, so they are probably busy deciding that. The first class started August 5th, so I'm sure that is taking up a lot of time.

Good info. Still a lot of time. It’s a stressful time for us all. I wish we all could get in.

Was your interview date the only interview date in June? If so, was there a morning and afternoon group?

As someone that interviewed late last cycle (sent in my application on the last day and received an invite by phone on the very LAST day of interviews) there were 2 groups. Because I had to catch a flight to the school that day bc I live 16 hours away, they put me in the 12-5 group that day. there was an 8-12 group before me.

I know there was 2 morning and afternoon sessions in July. Was just trying to see how many groups interviewed in June. Gives general idea of how many have been interviewed so far. Each group is approximately 25 people from what I hear

I’m pretty sure there have only been 3 groups interview so far & no more until the end of August. June only had one interview session.

This reminds me of how last year they ended up assigning tiers for interview, don't remember when it happened exactly but was probably around October maybe? A lot of people assigned to tiers were not interviewed however. They also interviewed a lot last year close to 500, I expect this year will have much fewer interviews. Again this is a new school as I am sure they are adapting to the whole process themselves. As of right now we all kind of have to wait and see.

I think you’re right. I still get the emails from last cycle and they apparently interviewed around 512 ppl? During the actual interview they stated that they would interview way less during the next cycle.

They told us it would be around 300 or so this year.

Thanks for the info. So it seems like roughly 125 ppl approximately have been interviewed so far.

That’s crazy. I would have at least let the school know to give those spots to other candidates

I received an email from them today and they said my decision letter was posted. Stilll says decision pending on my end. Doesn’t seem like good news to me

There may have just been an error if nothing was posted to your page, maybe reach out over email to clarify? I had this issue last cycle where they said something was posted when nothing was. Have you been invited for an interview?

I think that might be for 2024. Were you on the active reserve list last year?

Never mind y’all they told me it was for the last cycle I applied to and was waitlisted on…. They said class started so they were letting go of the waitlist and to reapply this cycle…unnecessary but PHEW

They happen to mention anything about this cycle?? lmao

No pre requisites required? What exactly does that mean? Can someone apply straight from high school?

There have only been 3 interview sessions so far. I think 25 applicants per session.
I could be wrong, but I believe they have 2 different sessions on their interview dates at 20 candidates per session. If I'm correct about 80 have been interviewed so far (June/July interview sessions) with an interview session coming at the end of this month.
