OK, lets say one does not match in Rads the first time around, and wants to reapply as an intern (PGY-1). How much difference does it make, really, if you choose to do a cush non-academic internship?

I can see myself actually happy during intern year at my local community hospital. But I am afraid that if I go unmatched, the low prestige will hurt my future apps to Rads.

Advice from people in the know would be appreciated.

thx

Better idea would be to go some place with a fairly large radiology program and hope a spot opens up or they expand the program. Many places are adding spots, so you have to keep your eyes and ears open for that.

Yeah I agree with Radrules. Your best chance is to just be in the right place at the right time when a spot opens up. If your state has a big radiology program, do a prelim year there and just keep in contact with the radiology PD at all times. If a spot opens up, he or she will have you in mind.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the candor and the sage advice.

rock on.
