I'm a new hire and I was promised 40 hours by the district supervisor. I've been with the company about a month. First week I got 40 hours. Since then they are only scheduling me for about 16 hours each week. Is this normal? I'm hoping I'll get more hours soon, but I'm worried it will never change.

On MyHR it says "FT staff Pharmacist" as my designation.

I wonder if it is possible to claim unemployment in a situation like this.

What did the scheduler say?

I certainly wouldn't consider that normal. Speak to your manager.

See what your base hours are (must be at least 30/wk to be FT) and if you don't get those hours you will have HUB on your paycheck which is hours under base to make up the shortfall.

This.
OP is a phony.

I'd kill to be a full time RPh only getting scheduled for 16 hours a week and getting paid 40 hours.

When I worked at CVS my scheduler would do anything to prevent HUB. Pretty much the only way it happened was if a hurricane struck on the last day of payroll and there was no way to make of the day.

This might sound clueless but I have no idea how the schedules are made or who makes them. Is there a scheduler at the district level? My store has just been done with pen and paper. They don't do the computer based scheduling.

Someone from CVS needs to respond to this, the next store you work at, ask for the schedulers number.

Wait i’m a little confused. So weeks you don’t work 40 hours they add the hours in for you?

I’ve never heard of HUB, what is it and how does it work?

You get hired on with X minimum hours.

Sometimes pharmacists home store can only schedule them for Y amount of hours, where Y < X.

So, it's up to the scheduler to schedule you at different stores for Z hours, where Z = X - Y.

If they can't find you a shift, or they're an idiot and forget to find one for you until the day of, which was common in Austin, then you'll be under X hours.

HUB = how many hours you're under.

Since you are promised a minimum of X hours, they then pay you whatever hours you weren't missed out on.

That's HUB

Gotcha, do you have to tell the scheduler to put those hours in or are they automatically added? This is good to know for future reference. Is this also time coded as HUB in workbrain?

It is system added, just like HOL for full time pharmacists.

"I was promised 40 hours by the district supervisor." if it's not in writing it didn't happen.

Do you realize it's a luxury and privilege to be able to work as a pharmacist for money? Graduating from school means absolutely nothing. It's a PRIVILEGE. you should be happy to even get 16 hours a week for the rest of your life. Some pharmacy grads never get a job.

Does this only apply to CVS?

This above, OP. No place is going to pay you for not working, sort of an act of God emergency. If you were guaranteed 40 hours, you would be working 40 hours, even if they had to stick you in as an extra pharmacist somewhere. I'm thinking it's more likely you were told, "sure we'll give you 40 hours,", but what they officially hired you at is something different, ie they hired you as PT up to 40 hours/week.

Of course, I'm assuming you are licensed. If you aren't licensed yet, then the 40 hr/week is probably contingent on your getting licensed.

It can be a scheduler oversight and the system simply adds in the HUB hours to make up your base, however, often they will try to require you to make up the hours during the next week/pay cycle.
