From Legend to a Disgrace.... all in a nanosecond. If I was one of his players I'm not sure I'd even suit up for him anymore. Pathetic lack of action.

I read the whole 20+ page grand jury report a couple of days ago. Pretty scary how many people looked the other way. the Grad student, who was later a coach for Penn State, reported, but did nothing to rescue the kid getting raped in the shower and did not follow up to see if anything was done. The mother of the child who was abused who called the coach on it, but did nothing other than stop her son from associating with the coach. The athletic director and university official obviously covered it up. Paterno did nothing except to take away the keys to the locker room.

Basically, all of the Penn State people said, "Hey, we don't care if you keep raping little boys, just don't do it here!"

Very sad that it could have been stopped many years ago, if anyone had done something.

Really, are there any public figures any more that you would be totally surprised by a scandal linked to their name? I certainly can't think of any off-hand.

As the Oracle of Omaha put it (Warren Buffett, in case you didn't know):

"It takes 20 years to build a reputation, and five minutes to ruin it."

Just read an article about JoePa evading the press by his wife weaving around and throughout the campus.

I would just throw Mr. Paterno in jail. He could share a jail cell with Dr. Murray.

For clarification, is it known that Paterno was aware of the actions? I understand it makes SENSE that we would expect he knew, however, has he admitted such yet? And while I'm not sure he would come out and admit it, just wondering if he's gone on the record as such just yet? The news reports don't clarify.

Paterno testified at the grand jury that it was reported to him that Sandusky was seen "fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy."

Then when the charges came out Paterno called them "shocking," and said, ""If this true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things."

Shocking? Fooled? Hey Joe, you have already testified you knew he was messing around with a young boy in the showers. Give me a break. The one fooled was me; never would have seen this coming from Joe Paterno.

From my reading of the grand jury report, it appears he knew when he reported to the athletic director. Nothing was done and no report to the police or CPS was made. But they did take away his keys to the locker room. He maintained an office on campus as well as access to all of the facilities.
Many have suspected that JoePa has had the onset of dementia for the past couple of years. In my mind, the only excuse for his inaction would be if his dementia was so severe that he was unable to discern what the proper actions should have been.
There is apparently more to the story that is leaking out. The grad assistant gets promoted to coach (for keeping his mouth shut??). The lead investigator from an earlier allegation suddenly drops the case and commits suicide. His computer is found in the river?? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. This could very well turn out to be the most unsettling scandal in all of college sports (if it isn't already). And that list includes some pretty bad scandals such as the murder of a basketball player and the cover up by a coach etc.

if that's the case, now I see the reasons why people want this dude's head. Sad ending to his story. Disgusting actually.

And then didn't call cops? Wow.

Just.

Wow.

Didn't know college football was that important.

D712

Joe is determined to go out with as little dignity as possible. Instead of manning up and resigning immediately, he wants to finish the season and says the Board of Trustees shouldn't waste time on his resignation. He's trying to manipulate being coach a few more games. Just get out. You look more like a bum every minute.

Careful. I was called gay for less than that.🙂

LOL

If there's a college sport I need to follow, throw me in the 3% minority that lives and breathes ICE HOCKEY! : )

As a matter of fact, I've NEVER been to a NFL football game. (ohhh, the horror). The only college football game I've been to in my life? Penn State Nittany Lions (circa 1980). (How's that for a tie in to this thread? ) Sat in bleachers alone for 2nd half while my father went out back and tanned himself on a park bench...

Childhood memories. Gotta love em.

Football brought in like $70 mil for PSU last year. It would probably take a murder to make most institutions jeopardize that kind of loot.

Or a rape...NOT. 👎thumbdown👎thumbdown

I don't trust you. Sad, yeah. The truth hurts sometimes.

BEWARE, FATHERS OUT THERE.

There are sinister individuals out there

that's how i feel Jet. Two boys here as you know, you just can't trust ANYONE.

Turns out I'm going to my FIRST NFL football game Miami v Eagles. In December. Though I'm not too sure many would call watching the Dolphins as football these days...

We're in the same boat.

We need to watch each other's backs to make sure we are not missing anything .

Moving on....

Dude... Your first NFL football game and you get to watch, in action,

MICHAEL VICK??!!!

I know, I know.

You're one of those

weird northerners that say

"EYY?"....like

Welcome to the Great White North,

EYY?"

Seriously tho,

you picked a very entertaining NFL game to go to.

I hope you have fun dude!! Getcha some popcorn, a beer,

enjoy the fans around you,

eventually you'll settle down in your seat and

since you're

New To Football

I wanna help you.

I wanna make sure

you're looking where the money is,

metaphorically speaking.

SO, D712, at any time/moment that he's on the field,

watch

MICHAEL VICK.

You're welcome.

JoePa should speak with Pete Rose to get advice on how to handle his new life. Both will now know what it is like to devote their entire life to something and do it better than anyone else, only to be remembered in history for something totally different.

OJ is offended that you think they are bigger star-turned-screwups.

You got me to laugh out loud at that one, HA. (you're welcome...LOL).
I actually didn't pick that game on purpose, and ONLY NOW that you write his name, did I realize he was on THE EAGLES. (yeah, I can see JPP rolling your eyes allllllll the way from here, lol). And before the board asks me if I know Vick, yes, I followed that case a bit.

Lemme say this, the last time I watched the Eagles on TV EVEN was circa 1980 when I was transplanted from NY to Mechanicsburg, PA for dad's job and Ron Jaworski was a name I recall, when I had a Philly Fanatic stuffed animal and an Eagles helmet in my room. I was 7. I still remember my mom saying, "YOU CAN'T GET A GOOD BAGEL AROUND HERE, what is WRONG WITH THIS PLACE!!!!"

This game was actually chosen by my son's friend who is having his BDAY PARTY at the game. I'm an inadvertent beneficiary. 😉

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! And I'll keep a close eye on VICK.

Back to the thread. Who is OJ?

JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST KIDDING.

I shake my head at all of the folks (many not even penn state alums) out there who are so CRUSHED by the disgrace of one man's FOOTBALL legacy over justice for the many then innocent children. Can't believe he had the arrogance to try to solve the university's problems and say he would resign at the end of the season. Really, Joe, we can see through this as you STILL trying to preserve your legacy. He may not have done anything criminal, but complacency in the protection of children? Moral crime of the worst kind.

I do know if my kid was one of the foolios rioting on campus last night in the name of justice for JoePa-- disappointment as a parent would be putting it very lightly.

I love football. But it's FOOTBALL people.

👎thumbdown👎

a bunch has been spoken about the original "child". does that refer to an 18 pre-football player, or was there actually a KID in the LOCKER ROOM of a college team - and if so - why?

now all this trafficking news is coming out... it's sickening.

shut down their football program, fast, please.

D712

Isn't that grad assistant the one who is now asst defensive coordinator and got a promotion recently because he finally broke this news? Some favor.

Read that link just above. WHERE WERE THESE KIDS PARENTS WHEN THEIR KIDS WERE ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS IN A SHOWEr? I have an 11 year old and never send him to NYU Or UCLA or UM alone?????! WTF!!!

D712

I just googled "Penn State Trafficking" because I had no idea what you were talking about. Now I wish I hadn't. One can only hope it's a false rumor.

I think I may have watched my last college sporting event ever. Can these players be so friggin dumb and oblivious to the much bigger picture?????

http://deadspin.com/5858468/this-is...enn-state-players-react-to-paternos-dismissal

Hey guys, your coach's complete inaction enabled a serial child molestor right under his nose. What do you not get????

Penn State is a very weak 8-1 team. They have squeaked by a lot of bad teams. The toughest part of their schedule is the next 3 games, and I hope they get CRUSHED!!!!

It's really a tale a selfishness. The players probably knew, how could they not. Year after year they surely heard the stories. No doubt. But who was going to rat out the program and lose their scholarships? All those days from 8-18 years just to make it to a BIG team and rat them out? Never. Coaches didn't wanna lose their jobs. Right? Guilt by association. All that work for nada. And PENN STATE didn't wanna lose their cash cow. Plain and simple. I'll wait for the movie. Somebody will profit their too. And round and round we go. Age old story.

pathetic. I hope Sandusky gets a taste of his own medicine in jail. If there ever were a vote for human castration and sterilization, kid molesting gets my Yay.

His skills of wanting to pass but can't so he runs

You seriously didn't know what team he was on?

You need therapy.

Just finally read the long deposition. THANK GOODNESS Victim #6's mother decided to ACT and call the authorities. Unreal. As for Paterno, he either did 1 of 2 things: a) reported it to those dudes properly, or b) changed the story to lessen the crime. I looked forward to finding this out. The grand jury found that those two idiots lied, so, maybe it's the latter. Anyway, I almost think that parents and kids alike should read that document to see how a predator like this operates. I had the conversation with my son, 11, last night. 8 year old today. It's not something you can only have once, it has to be forced into their heads.

As much as I like my son's hockey coach, there is just no "staying over coach's house" or taking an extended trip away, or any of that, without me there. My son was invited to play a friendly outdoor game in montreal in January (proud parent shout out). I'm going. 1) I love to support him to 2) I need to watch over him, he's my son.

The pattern and methods this dude Sandusky used, are unbelievably calculated. If you can deal with it, maybe read the deposition, it's graphic, but worthwhile as a parent.

Wow, what a level of cover up. And as I said, those janitors, and players, and coaches, and admins were ALL worried about their precious jobs. I hope they fix the loophole that requires reporting of this in PA and elsewhere.

The reason Sandusky was able to single these kids out was because they were troubled kids who came from mostly single parent homes and had been referred to the non-profit to get help. So he was able to prey on them for the same reason he was claiming to help them.

Truly shocking and horrific actions by this Sandusky monster. Justice needs to be served with a bullet to his head execution-style.

I agree, but I'm not sure all 7 victims were part of that kids Center, can't recall. What you describe might have helped facilitate his crimes, but I think had they not been of that Center, he still would have tried. I wonder what his wife knew/suspected from all this. It's all like a (tragic, disgusting) DELETED scene from American Beauty. I hope he goes away for many life sentences.

For the record, isn't he out on bail? While Dr. Murray was taken to jail with no bail for being a greedy, immoral doctor? NOT SUPPORTING Murray, but who would any of you rather have roaming the streets?

D712

What's more disturbing is that Sandusky has adopted children in the past, all male and has male grandchildren. I doubt he exercised any self-limits.

The story about the DA Ray Gricar that disappeared but only after visiting websites on how to purge your hard drive makes me wonder if he was told to disappear and is living on an island somewhere in the Caribbean. First thought he was axed but now wondering if he was given a deal to disappear.

D712[/QUOTE]

Yes. Which is absolutely ludicrous. Of all people, Jerry Sandusky deserves no bail. So he can go home and coach (no pun intended) his family on what to say and do?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Murray WAS out on bail during his trial. They put handcuffs on him and denied bail after the verdict was read and he was convicted.
