Hi all,

I was wondering if some of you could weigh in on my current situation as I am not quite sure what to do. I have been first-tier waitlisted at Pitt, a school that would be my top choice given similar COAs at all schools. LOIs apparently go a long way towards getting off the waitlist here.

However, I also have an upcoming interview at WashU, and know that WashU is known for being very generous financially. I have a very high MCAT and my parents make a combined 70k if that affects my chances of getting any aid. I also understand that my chances of getting into WashU at this point are very low due to how late in the cycle it is.

So do I send the LOI to Pitt now? Or hold off and see how things go at WashU?

LOI are none binding so you can send it whenever you want. You can tell them they are your number one choice (grovel )and still be allowed to change your mind later and tell them to bugger off .This is the reason why schools don't really give much weight to it. It's like telling a girl/guy you promise to marry her/him later but let's have sex now. That promise is non binding hence holds little weight(unless your very smooth then it might work)

Well, I wouldnt tell them bugger off per se. At the moment you have no offer from WashU and a WL from UPitt. You can write an LOI to UPitt. It really want cause any issue
Maybe I'm reading his/her post wrong but it seems OP is waiting to see if he/she can get a acceptance and a scholarship from WashU before sending the LOI to Pitt. But I'm saying they can send the LOI at anytime aND if that acceptance from WashU does come with a financial package to their liking then they can recant on their initial letter of interest(which doesn't have any weight in the first place).

Don't bother, they know you're lying. How else would you interpret a nonenforceable contract from a desperate applicant???

Congrats on the II, though!

Yes, send the LOI. If you get into WashU and get a huge scholarship, then obviously your situation has changed significantly, so you shouldn't feel bad if you don't end up going to Pitt if accepted.

The schools that encourage thank you notes and letters of interest and intent are playing BS kiss-ass games anyway.
