I've interviewed at three schools so far and was given 2 acceptances and am waiting for the results of the third interview. I was very surprised to find I got into my first choice dream school.

My issue is that the second school costs $100 to hold my place and I could use that money now for other things (i.e.:bills). I know I really want to go to my first choice but am concerned that I should still hold a place at the 2nd school just in case. Ultimately the second school is fine and in my home state but I don't feel as strongly about it as I do my top choice.

Additionally I've already cancelled one interview since getting into my top choice. I have two other interviews scheduled in January and am thinking of dropping them as well but am afraid I might miss out on possibly falling in love with the schools on the interview day. However those interview spots could go to others who really want to go to the schools (and I can save some money on travel + hotel)

Overall, should I save my seat and pay the $100 at the second acceptance school and should I drop my two remaining interviews since I got into my top choice?

Idk if it's helpful but my top choice which I was accepted was Ohio State. The second school I was accepted to was MSU CHM. The third school I'm waiting to hear back on results was UCincinnati. The interview I cancelled was Indiana U. And the two scheduled interviews left are Rochester and WMU's WMed.

If you're into your dream school, why place a deposit at another school, or interview anywhere else.
You're done man, you've made it. Go to your top choice and have fun!

Yes. It's an insurance policy.

If you are into your dream school, YAY. drop everything else and enjoy the next 7 months

I think that 100 may be refundable... may be worth putting it down if you think you would be a candidate for merit scholarships... But if not, go to your dream school and be happy

Most places the deposit is refundable before a certain date, the ones I know of personally are April 30.

Without doubt, I'd place $100 down on hold for my second choice immediately. With something as important as this, I think it would be prudent to put down $100 as an insurance policy to get into your second choice incase anything unforeseen happens with the first.

What kind of unforeseen event can happen with a school you're already accepted at?
