Hey everyone....I am wondering if anyone out there has some tips on how to predict where the holes will be in the final unfolded piece of paper. In the Kaplan BB is says to #1-always look at the symmetry of the first fold. Ok, so I got that, but what is it supposed to mean in relation to the answers provided????

If someone could give me some direction it would be great

Thanks, Alison

I think what it means is that, look at your answers provided. If you know there is not suppose to be a hole in that location, you can omit the ones that do have a hole.
usually symmetry works, unless it's a half punch or some wierd complicated ones(like the ones on achiever) that you would have to use the answer choices and your pen and paper to figure it out...🙂

hope this helps

try working backwards instead of relying on eliminating answer choices. I'd recommend printing out some hole-punching questions off of practice tests or questions and then try drawing dots on the final projection as you imagine unfolding the paper. I used to have trouble with this section at first too, but that seemed to work and now i find it to be one of the eaiser sections

Hello,

How do you figure out the aperture portion, top view, end view, and front view of the DAT? I am having problems with all of these sections. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey, not to freak you out but make sure you really practice these. I wasn't getting a single one wrong on all my practice exams (kaplan and topscore... never did acheiver) but I'm sure this is the section where I lost all my points on the real test. I had some with three holes punched, half-holes, half-folds... generally just ridiculous questions on what I had considered a gimmee section.

I would recommend practicing with real pieces of paper. You can get a better idea of how the symmetry forms across folds. Also practice partial folds -- fold the corner up only halfway or fold an edge 2/3 up.
