If you have worked in home infusion can you share what you found to be the pros and cons of your job or some things a pharmacist may want to know about this field before deciding to apply for a position as a home infusion pharmacist?

Including but limited to:

-Job Satisfaction
-Hours
-Travel Required
-Salary/Benefits
-Amount of Patient Interaction
-Amount of Paperwork
-Advancement opportunities (if any)
-Applicant Requirements for most home infusion companies

-Job Satisfaction - much higher than retail (for me) is all I can tell you
-Hours - 40-50/week, factoring in on-call duties
-Travel Required - none, unless u want it
-Salary/Benefits - pretty decent, if you get overtime
-Amount of Patient Interaction - pretty low; 95% of it is over the phone
-Amount of Paperwork - average
-Advancement opportunities (if any) - some (management or clinical paths with the larger companies), but probably not so much with a single hospital associated home infusion pharmacy
-Applicant Requirements for most home infusion companies - most would like some IV experience.

I will just say it is one of the few places I would work FT in pharmacy and be happy. 🙂

The only bad thing is being on-call some but you get to do a decent amount of clinical work, TPNs, pain pumps, antibiotics.

You get to sit down and use your professional knowledge at the same time.

Pay was about 15-20K less than 125
