I wouldn't call this a rate my chances kind of thing, but in a way it is.

I am transferring colleges and have to decide which path in most likely going to follow. I'm very entrepreneurial and love the medical field in general, and have shadowed Chiropractors and Dentist and feel like I would love a career in either.

My dilemma is my first year GPA at my past school is a 3.045.

I also dropped Chem 1 my freshman first semester. Mostly due to a lab mix up.

My thing is that my freshman year my long term girlfriend had serious heart problems and I was the primary caretaker, so it really messed up school quizzes and such with doctor appointments, surgeries, etc.

I'm transferring schools and was curious if that lower freshman GPA is going to hinder me couple with chem 1 withdrawal.

Also I would like to study for a total of five years vs four and get a double major, do you know If that would look bad on my app?

And lastly I'm in Texas, so I know competition is tough due to most likely Texas schools or bust, but if I do super well as my new school (easier more enjoyable atmosphere) and rock the DAT would I have a good shot?

Thanks ahead of times guys!

You still have plenty of time to improve your grades and do well on the DAT. I've met a person who spent five years and got accepted to Baylor, so it's possible. Try not to get anymore withdrawals. I had one W in an upper level science class, and it was never brought up at the interview last cycle. Here's a lesson I learned applying to ONLY Texas schools last cycle: don't do it, especially if you consider your hometown in the major city area. If you really want to become a dentist, you're going to have to apply outside of Texas as well even if your stats are high.

Thank you for your reply. And I do plan on applying to other schools outside of Texas. The name on my degree won't matter as long as I get one.

Thanks for the info. I just was planning on double majoring in accounting, seeing as I have most of the business core completed.

I plan to do much better on my grades and study my ass off for the DAT.

I was just making sure I wasn't in a bad boat, or have a shot before I sink into that Biology degree and give it my all.

Thanks.
