This is my second question here, so bear with me.
Is it extremely important to graduate with honors? How greatly would it affect my chances of being admitted to (any) med school.

At my school anyway, and I'm sure alot are the same, doing honours is a good way to get some research experience under your belt. And since you work closely with a supervisor / prof, it can also get you a decent LOR. But I don't think adcoms will expect you to have it, for most, it is just an extra.

I think it depends on how many people at your school graduate with honors.

Like at my school, something like 90% graduated with honors last year. . . so if you were in the other 10% you might look pretty dumb. :wink:

And if you apply during your senior year schools won't even know until you've already been accepted/rejected (with the exception of any waitlists you're on after graduation, if they require a transcript)!

IMO getting honors *might* help - but it certainly is not necessary.

If you are high enough in your class to qualify for grad. with honors, you are likely eligable for membership in honor societies, which is nice (but certainly not absolutely necessary) to pad the academic awards/honors section of your AMCAS.

If you're up there, more power to you... if you aren't, there are a LOT of other positives that are factors in making a strong application, so don't stress. Just focus on the other good things that you have going for you, and play those up instead.
