I have had several questions that go something like this:
"Patients surviving this interval":
0-1 yr survival = 80%
1-2 = 87.5
2-3 = 90
3-4 = 90
"if a patient survives one year, which of the following is the probability that he or she will survive 4 years"?
that would be 87.5 x 90 x90 right? Am I missing something? One of my buddies swears its 80 x 87.5 x 90 x90. And I vaguely remember getting Qbank question wrong on this sort of thing so I may be wrong. Anyone? Does the phrase "patients surviving this interval" mean something tricky?
