Hourly wage

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Since nobody wants to tell you I'll tell you mine....$54.77.....I'm in Southern California.

I'm in N CA. I make $57.50/hr & get time & 1/2 over 8 & over 40.

I was just at a meeting. Some locations around me are offering $60.

Be careful about sign on bonuses - there is a reason for that.....

edit to add - no, the wage rate will not go down. It may not increase at a rate, which in my career (30+ years) has been both rapid & slow. But, it has never, ever gone down.

Well if the company is willing to pay you $20k or more to sign a contract saying you will work there for x number of years there is a reason behind it. No one gives out money for no reason.

I just got an offer for $111,384 with a 8k sign on bonus if i stay with them for a year. I think that comes out to around $51 per hour.. i live in northern NJ BTW

My position has a salary range of $60.10 to $67.31 base with 10% bonus and stock options.

Actually...we're hiring two... for my counter parts..one west coast, one east coast. They asked me if I want to move to the East Coast...I said no. Then they asked if I want to move to the West Coast....I said no...

Kansas City, MO $54-57, some other retail(costco, walmart) offer $60.

Actually...I love the ocean.

I'm afraid of liberal states.

Looks pretty red to me. What's up with South TX?

I'm afraid of liberal states.

I love the ocean too, but I'm afraid of conservative states. Although I'm mostly conservative myself I took some time to ponder an article titled "Red State Babylon" which showed how screwed up the red states actually are (ie. highest divorce rates, highest number of men and women in prison, highest rate of illegitimate births, highest rate of death by firearm, highest rate of suicide, # of meth labs, etc).

😱 What can you possibly be afraid of???

Pharmaceutically, the liberal states are progressive. Educationally, we beat TX hands down.

True - we frown on guns in the back of a pick up, smoking in public places, marrying your sister.....but, really - you're an educated man educated in a very liberal area. We even had Ronald Regan & Nixon before the US did (no - don't thank me - give me condolences!) How much more conservative can you get than Orange County I ask???

Really - what can you be afraid of???

Please explain, thanks!

Sign on bonuses are a "lure" to get you into the corporation. There are many, many places pharmacists don't want to go.

You may "think" your sign on bonus commits you to one location or one area. But, if you read the small print & very closely (have someone who is not in your field read it too), the small print normally indicates the corporation has the ability to "float" you to areas which have needs greater than what you have signed on to do.

Also, a bonus normally requires a certain number of hours per week. So, if they don't need you in that location, you essentially become part of the "float pool". It won't say that in so many words - but it boils down to that.

Now, in my area - I know several pharmacists who changed positions & took what they thought were "large" sign on bonuses - $10-12K. But, they only work 1-2 days a week in their home store. They "float" the other 3 & they can be ANY 3 days of the week. Its nothing to drive 50-60 miles to float which can translate here to 50-90 min.

There is also a time committment - 2-3 years or you pay the bonus back. Now, that makes the $15K small potatoes. I wouldn't even do it for $40K. I spent 3 years commuting 40 miles & that was absolutely enought.

Move to South Orange County, California. I guarantee you life behind the orange curtain is much better than these other tree hugging hippie places.

And I agree with sdn1977...commuting is a waste of your life. I have to do it just 25 minutes one way and 10 going back, but one of these days I hope to just walk to work. Or take my golf cart...right from the 18th hole. Hell...I'll ride a donkey if it's just around the corner.

Ehhh... you would be amazed at the school system in TX... And we don't have state income tax. Take a look a the best HS in the US list on Newsweek based on scores... you'll see that #1 and #2 schools are right here in Dallas. There are 5 TX HS on the top 25 list... but pharmacy education? You're right.. CA blows TX away...despite the "subjective" US News ranking... but heck, I'm not going back to pharmacy school....what do I care...

I'm kidding about being afraid of liberal states..

But remember...I moved out of CA twice. And I'm not going back...:meanie:

hmmm.... I used to live in Orange County... in fact, my parents still have a house in Orange county.

And you know.. I walk to work... to upstairs office in my home.

One of the reasons I moved out of CA was so I can have better access to golf. And I can see down the 12th fairway.. sitting in my living room...right now...:meanie:

Look at the little blue spot in the middle of Texas.... it's called Austin.. full of young ideal students. Then they move to Dallas and Houston and wise up..and become conservative..:meanie:

Doh, I lose =(

I still have no idea where I'll settle, weather is still the big factor for me.

P.S. I want your job, just for the commute and the ability to tee off from your BACKYARD!

Haha...I went from the blue SF Bay Area down to red Orange County, and look what happened to me. Now I won't go near Clinton and her socialist health care plan.

lol, compare population growth of Houston and Dallas versus Austin. Then look at what studies rate Austin, continuously getting recognition as one of the best cities in America. Finally, go back and edit your post!
Stop your ignorant conservatism at once sir!

when you have million people and you got 1000 moving in... it's a drop in the bucket.

But when you have ten thousand people..and have 1000 moving, suddenly you're the fasteast growing city in the world... :meanie:

All in perspective...young horn.

Don't get me wrong...I love Austin. It's a great city. I could live there.

Selfishness equals wisdom....and other philosophical pearls....

At WVU Hospitals, they only start you out at $40.88/hour. Of course, the cost of living is low and there are 50 billion pharmacists in Morgantown. Everyone else in the area gets $95k-$105k.
