So imagine if they made house into a DO, and had him come from a school like PCOM. You guys think there'd be an increase in DO school applications?

It would sound really stupid saying

House DO

cuz then everyone would be like "house do what?"

Also House would Never have been a DO, have you ever watched the show? I dont think it bein a DO doc would mesh with his personality.

He is an actual real life fictional MD doctor!

I actually think the personality that House has would set back the DO name even more. If that makes sense.

I don't get it. I've seen plenty of physicians that are both DO and MD's that are miserable or share the same personality.

"House, DPM" would be bad ass.

He is the reason I applied for MD, so probably yes.

I think it would at the very least have imporved the visibility of DO's. I wasn't even aware of the DO degree till I started looking into premed stuff.

If House were a DO then he wouldn't be able to solve any cases and the show would SUUUCK.

Same for me 🙁

now the million dollar question: would he use OMM ???

all kidding aside, i think a DO in the spotlight of the media would generate much-needed attention for the profession.

sick avatar/name!

Thanks! 😀

UHHH OHH!!!! This will end well.

This has been discussed many times in the DO boards, and the general conclusion is that making a doc on TV specifically a DO would probably just accent the differences between an MD and a DO and make DOs look like holistic, skull manipulating weirdos ... not fully licensed physicians that practice identical medicine to MDs. The best way to promote DOs through a TV show is to just make one character an MD one a DO, have them practice side by side and just drop little things about it here and there.

 Just reading the title made me laugh out loud, literally. House is the best. . . House, MD, that is

house should recruit a DO to the fellowship and have that contrast be part of the story arc for next season or something. I think it would be interesting to see House make fun of the DO just for their title while they still do a good job.

it would be a nice break from 13

LOL. Thank you for that. I'm studying for an organic chem. test and I needed that laugh! I could just see some of my friends saying that.

I had no idea what a DO was before visiting these forums. I thought a DO was the same thing as an OD (optometrist)

13 is hott, but I def. second the idea of recruiting a DO. It'd bring a semi new life to the show. I mean it seems like it would spark some intrigue into the title.

hes not a chiropractor

If he were a DO, he'd be mocking himself the entire show instead of everyone else.

Just a quick question/opinion from you guys. I've never seen House, is it worth watching?

Absolutely, it might be the best show on TV. I think a better question is what if Doogie Howser was a D.O.?

Pourquoi ne pas House, MBBS? It would bring exposure to physicians from the Commonwealth and those formerly under British rule. Or maybe Hausek, MUDr. - a Czech physician. Or Höse, Cand.med. from Scandinavia. Or House, MB BCh BAO from Ireland. Or Hausević, dr. med. from ex-Yugoslavia.

So long as its a degree in Western medicine, does it really matter how each governing abreviates the degree?

On topic: if there is a degree that lacks in exposure its the Irish medical degree - what percent of the US even knows it may exist? MB BCh BAO!!! Saying it is fun. ANyway g'night all.

I envy you. Reason why is that the first time I started watching house, I had season's 1-4 to watch. It was good to watch each episode knowing I wwas only one click away from the next one. Now that I finished all the seasons, I have to wait a whole week. 🙁

Funny post overall. To the original OP's question, actually, for the record, applications to NCIS skyrocketed due to its TV show success. Most people didn't even know the Navy had federal agents before that show. Or the AF or Army for that matter. Good argument that HOUSE DO would have done a little something for those schools, with its success, I guarantee it.

I heard a rumor house graduated from a carribbean school.LOL

House went to Johns Hopkins, I think, initially, but was kicked out for cheating. I don't remember where he finished his education.

He's not in my avatar for no reason! Of course it's worth watching.

House earned his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University and studied medicine at the Johns Hopkins Medical School. [21] During his medical education, House was caught cheating by a man named Weber, who ultimately got him expelled. House then attended University of Michigan for the remainder of his study and met Lisa Cuddy, his future boss.[22]

House, DPM would rule... can't argue with that.

Even better would be "House, D.C." It would turn out that everybody in the ICU has a subluxation, so they need to come back every week for an adjustment. :meanie:

In school, House was a good student, and obtained admission to Johns Hopkins Medical School. However, he was caught cheating by Philip Weber, the man whom he later treated as his arch-nemesis, and was expelled. Despite his academic misconduct, House was accepted at the Medical School of the University of Michigan, where he became a legend and first came to the attention of a young undergraduate student, Lisa Cuddy. House mentions that he got a perfect score on his MCAT examinations.

I also like how he was a 'legend' in medical school at a young age.

He called Jefferson "boring" in one of his episodes too. Thanks Dr. House. 👎
